At least Cheltenham offers a distraction from other stuff that's going on, so, for what it's worth:
Day One Champion Hurdle Day!
1.30 Fiddleronthehoof (Abacadabras)
2.10 Notebook (Brewin'upastorm)
2.50 The Conditional (Activial - Big River)
3.30 Supersundae (Conerstone Lad-Call Me Lord)
4.10 Honeysuckle (Benie Des Dieux)
4.50 Champagne Mystery (Whatmore)
5.30 Forza Milan (Lord Du Mesnil)
The Champion (3.30) looks to be at least competitive, and as such half a dozen will be given support. Honeysuckle was my original pick but now they've gone the mares route, it's half a mile extra supposedly more to her liking. Supersundae is the proven 'class' horse, despite his age. A festival winner, a going winner, a grade one winner and doesn't know when he's beat. I couldn't side with the favourite because she ran appalling here last year, and would consider the 'greens' Call Me Lord as a more serious a contender from the Henderson stable, while Pentland Hills has potential; give me visual proof over potential everytime. Cornerstone Lad has at least beaten a previous Champion Hurdle winner, and he's proved the going won't hamper him either, when beaten last time he was giving weight away and wasn't stopping at the line. But as I've said, there are others who will decide on differing perspectives.. my thoughts can be easily laughed at or dismissed out of hand; lots of opinions can be said to be but wisps of thinking moments in time!
Arm up the back and Notebook(2.10) would be the day's bet, in a double with Honeysuckle(4.10)... Of the outsiders, Champagne Mystery(4.50) looks nailed on for a place a from this distance (Henderson is not averse to dissuade punters by putting up a 'junior' jockey on one of his and winning with it), although he'll need luck in running and a taking to the ground, whatever that is! They always love to put 'good' in their description somewhere, and am sure it's more of the going for the car park rather than the racing surface, I'm siding with soft all over, along with heavy in parts.Having a go at the placepot with the first six races. If I get a couple of them at least placed I'll be delighted lol Hopefully the day's racing is better than...say no more! Good Luck everyone and hopefully all the participants will come back unscathed!
