Off to Chicago next weekend for the marathon, anyone been? Any top tips for stuff to do apart from run a marathon and eat pizza

Enjoy all the city has to offer, as it’s beautiful time of year!

Take the architectural boat tour, visit Second City to see the birthplace of American sketch comedians and more, eat some deep dish, maybe a Polish, but definitely a dipped Italian beef (preferably Portillo’s, but almost anywhere). Enjoy a jazz club, but don’t stray too far south to do it. Stroll North Michigan Ave down to Oak Street Beach, then come back along the lakefront to Millennium Park.

But, if you’ve never been before:

1) Architectural Boat Tour to rest your legs and learn the history of the city, much of which is based on the river

2) Choose your food. And where you’ll get it.

3) Get outside to see the places and things that you’ve read about.

4) The nights are for theatre, comedy or jazz, so eat first, drink & chill later, and then maybe a late night bite (but be careful where, esp after dark!)

5) Talk to locals. Midwesterners are the nicest people in America and they’ll be happy to engage you in most situations, and help you all the time.

6) Try hard to resist the urge to say “Ah Chicago…All Capone…Bang Bang” lest you sound like a stupid tourist! ;-)
