Cinema Prices - Why Are They So Greedy?

You're actually allowed to bring your own food and drink into the cinemas.

Warm food and cold drinks? We used to get taken to Woolworths first for pick and mix because their equivalent was shocking.

I'd been on the beer before Don't Take Me Home so had a popcorn to try and soak some of it up. I still had Tony Bellew v David Haye to watch that night.

Cinemas need to reinvent themselves or risk bleeding more money with each passing year. Start with better technology (Both video & audio), better venue & seating and of course concessions. There are fewer & fewer reasonable arguments to see a film at a theater when many can produce a better experience in their own home - even if it's a few months or so after a film has been released

There was a question at PMQs today, because the Picturehouse cinema chain won't pay their staff the living wage in London, despite profits of £80m last year.

Cold drink yeah but not warm food. You are allowed to bring in crisp and chocolate etc but only hot food bought from inside the cinema.

Most modern cinemas use digital video and audio technology that is out of this world and most films lose a lot being watched at home.

F'risntance You just cannot appreciate Gravity on a home tv, no matter how big it is.

You can get a decent system with Atmos these days for around £2500 including 3D which is better at home than at the cinema.

I very rarely go now, back in my youth it'd be 2-3 a week.
Cheaper to buy a Blu ray and watch on my 50" HD tv .
The reason it's so expensive is that margins are tight, downloading illegally has taken its toll, much like MP3's and album sales.
There should be incentives to seeing in the cinema, a free blu-ray of the film for instance

Whenever I go cinema I normally go AMC on deansgate and try getting there for a before 11am showing (if available) as the prices are about £4.50 for a ticket. It baffles me why some of my mates insist going to Cineworld in Parrs Wood when it's full of chavs and costs about £10 a ticket.
