Cinema Prices - Why Are They So Greedy?

for 6 of us at cineworld to watch despicable me 3. 2 adults and 4 kids would of cost us £50 just for tickets.

That is horrendous. Are there no family deals? i.e. One parent and two children for £15. You pay as two groups and only shell out £30.

The ex and I saw the pictures as affordable for date nights. We'd go on a discounted Wednesday just to see each other midweek as we lived in different areas. I think we'd pay less than a tenner as it was two for one.

Cinema tickets are so expensive because like football they can get away with it.
In theory, unlike football, we punters are not tied in to one cinema but with so few players in the market the reality is the market has become a cartel.

The guy next to me at Trainspotting 2 mentioned he has a monthly pass he paid a nice amount for. Less than £20 certainly. Value if you only see three films in that time.

i can seriously say that my last visit to the cinema was to see saturday night fever around 1978 if i remember correct, nice and cheap in those days

Out of curiosity, how much do you reckon we used to pay to go to the Sunday matinee at the Roxy? Probably talking around 1970ish.
Sadly the Roxy is no more..... took my girls there Saturday mornings in the late 90's, then onto McDonald's in Newton Heath, then the Ducie Arms pub on Cambridge St and we'd walk to Maine Road from there.
Happy days

I couldn't believe how small the site of the Scala in Withington looked when it was demolished.

Reel at Widnes is quite cheap. Otherwise AMC. Where's that 4.99 offer at Vue?

We were laughing about this in the pub recently and an old fella quipped he hadn't seen anything at the pictures since The Jungle Book first came out.
