Just this very second Ballague has said on sky news that Barca are offering 30M - 35M for Cesc. I think that's peanuts, but if true it doesn't leave Arsene much leeway if a bidding war develops between us and them over Gourcoff.

I also think after following all the threads that for most City fans Gourcoff is the one who seems to tick all the boxes even more so than Hamsek and Ozil - I would be delighted with any of the three and you can throw in Milner as well.

Could be wrong but I doubt Wenger will bid higher than 20m for a player.

I expect them to go for Arteta if Cesc leaves.

Arteta would be a natural replacement for Fabregas. Though we have been linked with Arteta too here, I would be surpsied if Gollum would do business with us again, he would deliberately sell to anyone else but us after Lescott last year.

ARSENE WENGER has lined up a £21.8million deal for Bordeaux ace Yoann Gourcuff - his No 1 choice to replace Cesc Fabregas.

Arsenal have already spoken to the France star's dad Christian to pave the way for a switch that will make Gourcuff the Gunners' record signing.

An Arsenal source said: "While every effort is being made to keep Cesc at the club the boss is working towards an alternative.

"He believes Gourcuff's finesse and grace will fit perfectly to Arsenal's way of playing and will make it an almost seamless transition if Cesc does go."

Wenger is desperate to keep Fabregas after the skipper asked for a move to boyhood club Barcelona.

Arsenal slapped an £80m price tag on their prized asset but it is accepted Fabregas will eventually sign for Barca for around £45m.

Gourcuff, 23, will be France's first-choice playmaker in the World Cup but has a £21.8m get-out clause at Bordeaux.

Wenger may struggle to bring that price down as Bordeaux president Jean Louis Triaud is still fuming at Wenger for nabbing his striker Marouane Chamakh on a free.

Yet cash-strapped Bordeaux are desperate to get Gourcuff off their wage bill after failing to net a European spot following a late-season collapse in the French League.

Gourcuff earns around £80,000 a week at Bordeaux, one of the highest contracts in French football.

He joined Bordeaux in a £14m deal from AC Milan last summer after a season on loan in France.

we have to intercept there bid for him.

Get him here instead of there he is the next big thing and would be a damn shame forthem to sign him instead of us

i seriously doubt gourcuff would succeed in a league like this one as he isn't quick enough or highly skilled like people tend to believe, from what i have seen of him,he is very easily nullified by even rubbish hard working defensive mid.

He is also a player who likes to hide whenever the going gets tough something that he shares with nasri who just passes the ball to other people so giving up responsibility to others, also the price wouldn't be that good.

I would rather see us go for silva who is quicker,a better technician and not a bottler like gourcuff seems to me,let arsenal have him as he would fit right in with them bottlers there but we could get arshavin to come here if they got yohann.

Arshavin would thrive in that free role behind the strikers which would also save his energy and have him fitter so he can be even more dangerous during the game.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has vowed to 'break the bank' to sign Arsenal and Manchester City target Yoann Gourcuff.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for the Bordeaux midfielder with Cesc Fabregas widely tipped to join Barcelona this summer. While City are also monitoring Gourcuff's uncertain future.

Gourcuff, 23, was one of the major forces behind Les Girondins' progress to the Champions League quarter-finals this season.

But with coach Laurent Blanc leaving his post to take over the France job from Raymond Domenech after the World Cup, Gourcuff is weighing up his options.

A move to the Emirates would see France international link up with his former Bordeaux team-mate Marouane Chamakh.

But Lyon are poised to scupper any such move with the French club ready to spend £21million to make the move happen.

Interviewed in French daily L'Equipe, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas said: 'We will sign a strong midfielder which will cost between 15 – 20 million Euros. 'It could be him - for Gourcuff, I saw his contract and he has a get-out clause of up to 25 million Euros. If he wants to leave in August, we will break the bank.'

Gourcuff has won 17 caps for France, scoring one goal, and is a member of Domenech's World Cup squad.

Wenger will sign him for £20mil, he'll be brilliant and we'll have to hear about what a genius Wenger is eeeuuurrrggghhh! Same happened with Arshavin I was screaming for us to get him when Arsenal were being cheeky not budging above £12mil for him. Get him snapped up, get Silva and Martinez too, young talented eager!

Dunno how reliable L'Equipe is, not very probably. Taken from Goal.com:

Manchester City and Arsenal are set to go head-to-head to bring £25 million-rated Girondins de Bordeaux schemer Yoann Gourcuff to the Premier League.

French sports daily L'Equipe has reported that the French international is high on the shopping list of Roberto Mancini as he looks to add some extra craft to his side at Eastlands.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has also ear-marked the former AC Milan midfielder as the man to fill Cesc Fabregas' shoes — if the 23-year-old makes the £40 million move to Barcelona in the summer.

Gourcuff, who is expected to be given a starting spot at the World Cup for France, has developed at a rapid rate under Laurent Blanc after an unhappy spell in Serie A. He notched seven assists and six goals in the club's unsuccessful bid to retain their Ligue 1 title last term.

Usually quite relaible actually!

Has anyone heard anymore on Gourcuff, I was told on monday that City were in for him.

Can any of the ITK's shed any light on this?
