City Announces Global Partnership with Viagogo

Without reading through all the thread did Danny Wilson attend the osc meeting the other night ?
It was me that posted it, but I was never attending as I had plans before they announced the guest. I haven’t heard anything about whether he attended.

I did see that he was attending the Glossop branch this coming Tuesday though and guests are welcome. I’m sure he will be well skilled in side stepping challenging questions, but it would be interesting to hear what he has to say on the clubs ticketing strategy and overall disregard for matchgoing fans.

One of the City Matters representatives, Mohammed Ullah, was abused at a recent game. "Why are you here?" he was asked. That's why I had a go at 1894 over the "tourists" shit. Mohammed is as Mancunian was they come yet because he's dark-skinned and often dresses traditionally, he got abused. You see people on here referring to Chinese tourists, when Manchester has one of the biggest Chinese communities in Europe.

Of course a lot of it is about race.
That’s awful. We should all be aware of that and not just look at people based on appearance. Of course we shouldn’t single out individuals either.

I still don’t think that there is anything systemic within our fanbase that is racist though. Tensions have been increasing for some time now and yes we have some idiots in our fanbase, and people who make wrong assumptions and foolishly act upon them.

It has been specifically mentioned it's the ones that jump up and down when our opponents score, or the ones who get block seats when blues can't sit next to their family members.

Nobody seriously gives a flying fuck what colour somebody is, or if they do they are pretty rare.

So talk about fans supporting the opponents instead of throwing around Tourist as a catch all derogatory term for any non regular fan.

How’s being classed a tourist derogatory? When I go on holiday, I’m a tourist. Woke, over sensitive crap! Get back onto the subject and stop trying to change the narrative.

Well he's a City fan, so didn't do either of those things, yet someone clearly gave a flying fuck what colour he was, or how he was dressed.

Because that's what they bloody are, they are the very definition of tourists. Stop fucking shaming blues for speaking out.

Stop trying to police a perfectly acceptable word because it upsets you. "Non regular fan" what sort of a description is that, how in the world did you think of that world salad?

Get back on the subject
We've discussed tourists on all the other protest threads. Let's keep this to topic, which is City selling tickets to, and partnering with the biggest ticket touting company in the world. Thanks.
Exactly!!

The key thing is we have a plan for the next home game. Don’t appear in your seat until 9 minutes in. Then get the atmosphere rocking around the ground.
Unfortunately it probably won't even get noticed as people tend to stay in the concourse after kick off anyway.

Hopefully people stick to there guns and there's next to nobody in their seat for the first 9 minutes.

Be great if it happened.

It is getting daft now. The word 'tourist' is even being weaponised. I lived in Australia for a couple of years and watched cricket, rugby, football, F1, tennis, Aussie Rules etc over there. 'Tourist' was about the most complimentary reference I'd receive.

Next we'll have to diversify that a tourist is. Sightseers getting offended at being called a 'tourist' as it implies they're taking their towel with them everywhere and being a lazy beach bum. Truly is getting pathetic.

Couldn’t agree more mate.

As one of the people (not in 1894) who has referred to “Chinese Tourists” can I offer a few words of explanation, although I really don’t feel it should be necessary.
At the Liverpool game I followed a group of 30 or so Chinese tourists into EL1. They were escorted by tour guides with flags and high viz tabards. They were obviously unfamiliar with a premier league stadium and were ushered to their seats in 102. I have no animosity to them at all, the point I was trying to make was that the club (and it has to be the club as they were en bloc) are selling prime tickets to our biggest game to people who will only ever go to the Etihad once. For me it would have been the same issue if they had been Uzbeks in big square hats or Scots in full kilts!
I despair that the word tourist has now been designated as racist on here. What are we supposed to call people from China on an organised tour? “Travellers from a very big country in the East?”
The issue is that occasional travellers from wherever are taking more and more seats and pushing up prices. Of course they shouldn’t be abused it’s not their fault it’s the club’s.

Sad. The stands turning on each other as the alienation between the crowd and the executive grows and innocent people get scapegoated. It’s the same thing we see in politics.

We’ve all seen players abused in the heat of the match over the years and it’s not right and never has been. But a home fan, to his face? That’s a new low and I don’t believe it would have happened in any season in recent years but this, as nerves fray and resentments boil over.

As I was driving home this very topic was discussed well on Talksport. Other big clubs are having exactly the same problems as us-tourists, declining atmosphere and away fan mixed in. When you throw in admission prices it’s becoming a big problem.

Fans need to unite and get the media going with this, make it a movement. Wishful thinking maybe but City could be the club that bucks the trend with the new stand. Make your money through these methods in three ends and have one massive “end” behind the goal for working class/traditionsal fans only. It can be done. There’s a business model there.
Someone mentioned on here about 10 years or more ago - pretty sure it was @tolmie's hairdoo - that he felt the club had missed a trick with regards to the stadium. His suggestion was that the club could build a 100,000 seater stadium adjacent to the current one, and that they could have a range of pricing to suit all budgets. Due to the huge capacity, there would be shit loads of affordable ticket prices so “legacy” fans aren’t priced out. At the same time, the stadium would be plenty large enough to also cater for hospitality sections and the football tourists who want to take in a game. Enough room to cater for all demographics and enough room to build a huge atmosphere stand at one end that dwarfs the one currently being built. It would’ve stolen a huge march on the new stadium plans recently released by the Rags and it would’ve cemented - and grown - our traditional support base for decades, while at the same time the club would be coining it in far more than they will when our current stadium capacity increases to 62,000 and doing it without pissing the core fanbase off.

Also, by building it from scratch it would’ve been far more like a football stadium that was conducive to atmosphere than the various bolt-ons to the current stadium that we have. Of course, the outlay would’ve been astronomical but if they’d started it 10 years ago it would’ve been far less astronomical than it would If we were to start it today.

“Our” Club doesn’t tolerate fan protests so I suspect any anti Viagogo banners will be removed pretty sharpish.

I took this photo at the Liverpool home game. It was confiscated by stewards within a minute. That’s how much the Management care about the fans.
