City Announces Global Partnership with Viagogo

I sort of agree but no one can deny Viagogo is targeted at tourists, and as soon as anyone mentions that undeniable fact they are branded as racists
Almost half of Manchester is non-white now, and some blues see those fans at games and think they are tourists. That's my issue. We want a fervent, atmospheric City crowd, where everyone is welcome. In communicating that there were misunderstandings. It's a difficult subject. We should try and address it though because we all want City fans to represent MCFC and Manchester.

Not sure why this has created such a reaction. Who honestly gives a shit?
Because people can’t get tickets when they all go on sale, and then turn up and find six friends in front of them who have never been to a City match and can’t contribute to the atmosphere because they are there to see the other team or post on Instagram. Young people with roots in HK, SK, Thailand have been part of the matchday scene for ages now, many live in Manchester and include season ticket holders, they are Blues.

But this season the number of oppo fans, player/boy band fanboys, half and halves and instafans from ALL over the world has increased exponentially and some of the behaviour is deteriorating - too many phones, open support for other clubs, blocking the stairs, no craic. Unfortunately genuine fans are getting labelled as tourists as resentment at the silly and shortsighted ticketing policies grows and atmosphere dips. I had a smartarse behind me make a crack about being in the ‘tourist queue’ when my son’s qr code wouldn’t work for one game, and I was born and brought up within walking distance of Maine Road! Ive also experienced the frustration of my kids meeting the criteria for RM last season after going to every unglamorous fixture, being barred from buying them online, being assured by the ticket office they would be ‘held’ for me, when nothing of the sort happened, and the guy who ended up next to me had absolutely no interest in the outcome and clearly didn’t meet the criteria set for regular match goers.

The club has been taking the piss in multiple subtle ways but it’s all coming to a head now, RM this season and Brighton were the nadir, the Viagogo deal confirms it, and they are actually putting people at risk because they are causing tension between supporters in what has long been a welcoming fanbase.

Viagogo target anyone who is stupid enough to pay the ticket price and *booking fee*.

I walked away from a car purchase once because they wanted me to pay an admin fee.

I've just changed two flight dates with Ryanair. £45 each way. O'Leary, you robbing blue ****!

As I was driving home this very topic was discussed well on Talksport. Other big clubs are having exactly the same problems as us-tourists, declining atmosphere and away fan mixed in. When you throw in admission prices it’s becoming a big problem.

Fans need to unite and get the media going with this, make it a movement. Wishful thinking maybe but City could be the club that bucks the trend with the new stand. Make your money through these methods in three ends and have one massive “end” behind the goal for working class/traditionsal fans only. It can be done. There’s a business model there.

Only this.

And it makes sense long-term with encouraging new generations of loyal, local and noisy City fans, and short-term with really screwing up United's financial projections while they are scrubbing round trying to finance their new tent. City are in an excellent position to significantly reduce prices, United not so much.

Sometimes the right move is one that weakens a competitor, rather than strengthens your own financials .....

"Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected."

Summarised perfectly

I agree. Jesus let’s not get lost. I’m saying this debate is not about racism and the term tourist is not racist as some on here are trying to imply. Let’s get back to the debate for crying out loud.
Of course you'd want to get away from talk about racism. A City Matters representative was abused because the debate is all about who is allowed to be a City fan, often centred on their ethnic origin.

I'm not remotely bothered about neutrals coming to watch us. I'm more bothered about them being ripped off by dodgy ticket sites. I don't even have a problem with the odd away fan who behaves with respect for his surroundings because many of us have been in that position at other grounds watching City. Away fans taking the piss in home areas is the key issue, along with prices and the increasing alienation of our longstanding fan base.

My 17 year old is half Asian, and had a seasoncard since he was three, I'd love to hear any fucker call him a tourist in my ear shot.

I thought it was a great video but were Big Steve’s previous endorsements for a rival ticket agency all a dream??

Shit-stirring, deflection snide remarks. Anything to turn attention away from the organisation you shill for that very soon will be at a fork in the road that if they make the wrong call, they'll be finished

Apart from these markers, can anyone else name anymore markers where Khaldoon, Soriano, and the directors haven't given a fuck about the fans.

Season ticket and match day ticket price rises every season.
No more general season ticket sales.
Flexi-Gold season tickets only.
Ticket sales for Real Madrid at home in the CL.
The club silence on the Istanbul coach park fiasco.
The Super League participation and subsequent withdrawal.
Groups of fans wearing their team colours in the City away ends at Liverpool and Ipswich.
The club syphoning off tickets to give to the ticketing touting websites.

Got sympathy with your view Marvin but there is an issue with ‘tourist behaviour’ too. There are Mancs of all colours and religions who have always been Blues and always been Mancs -just ask Moss Side - and then there are people whose matchday behaviour is different to that of most matchgoers and actually quite irritating. I’m not saying that there aren’t people making unjust assumptions about who is a ‘tourist’ and who isn’t based on appearance. But there is a real issue of genuine Manc fans of all colours, the folk who come to our parades, wear our shirts everywhere, play youth football all over the city being shut out, priced out and denied season tickets while the club promotes itself abroad and via agencies to people with no local or generational ties who are a million miles from the Cool Cats and the kids who walk in their shoes now. There’s no prejudice in pointing out the unfairness of that.

Everyone isn’t welcome though. Neutral nobodies with scarcely a passing interest in football never mind City who are taking the place of City fans, and especially fans of the opposition team and opposition players, aren’t welcome. I hate them being anywhere near me.

And City’s own Ts&Cs state that visiting supporters must not buy tickets in the designated home stands (I know because I’ve quoted them to the club over the phone).

It’s only a difficult subject when people try and complicate it where it doesn’t need complicating.

I want to support fan protests on ticket prices and ticket availability but I want City fans to accept that City's traditional fanbase is going to change in that 1/3rd of local Mancs are now asian and we aren't tourists. It would help if the club acted on the sale of half and half souvenir scarfs on CL nights. It looks bad.

It’d be useful if you didn’t always make up figures plucked out of thin air.

20.9% of Manchester is Asian (13.5% of Greater Manchester).

Your constant swerving of the narrative of this in every thread it pops up on is fucking boring, fella. You imply white City fans are too thick to understand that Mancunians aren’t all white, you imply that white City fans are racists… the way you always bring this sort of narrative to the party seems, erm, a bit racist to me.
