City are negotiating a big commercial deal with Citibank

I know this sounds ridiculous but I doubt it'll happen because of our ties with the NY Yankees. Citi Bank is a big supporter of the NY Mets and their ground is actually named after the bank. Us joining with Citi bank would piss the Mets off just as much as if Etihad went and sponsered the Rags.
We're sponsored by Nike and NYC are sponsored by Adidas. I don't think anyone gives a shit in business. I don't think they get as emotional as football fans over these sorts of things. Samsung and Apple are constantly suing each other, and yet they still do deals all the time.

Thats sort of correct, the MLS are kitmakers for every kit in the MLS thats why NYC are with them and not Nike.

I fully agree with that.

In fact Standard Chartered were fined by the USA government for laundering cash from particularly Iran a country that they have prohibited their businesses from dealing with.
The fact that USA have to make trading with certain countries illegal speaks volumes about the subject of trading practices.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/aug/20/standard-chartered-fined-300m-money-laundering-compliance" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.theguardian.com/business/201 ... compliance</a>

See the quote just below the fully enclosed advert regarding trading with Iran.

In fact Citibank are one of the worst offenders when it comes to being sued or being fined though no banks are completely blameless in that respect.

Old story I know but after the First World War the UK armaments company Vickers were sued by the German firm Krupps for not paying some invoices applicable to fuse patents on shells fired during that war.

<a class="postlink" href="http://armingallsides.on-the-record.org.uk/case_studies/vickers-and-krupp/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://armingallsides.on-the-record.org ... and-krupp/</a>

Business as usual is definitely the message unless of course they have an illegal cartel agreement to exclude competition or rig prices.

I tweeted at City Watch when he posted the story about this but he's always silent on there. Found an old article that I remembered reading from right around the time of the Mancini sacking:

It is understood one potential shirt sponsor, an international financial services firm with their headquarters in the United States, were considering a five-year £25million-a-year deal but have dropped out of negotiations ‘because of uncertainties about where City are going, medium-term’.
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2326788/Manchester-City-struggling-new-shirt-sponsor.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... onsor.html</a>

This could be a return of those negotiations or completely unrelated but it seems like we've been trying to get a different, and higher paying, shirt sponsorship for some time.

You would think it would be unrelated with the amount of money Etihad are rumoured to be increasing their sponsorship too.

Abu Dhabi Investment Authority lost $7.5 billion on their deal with Citibank, so this would be a nice compensation

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-12-09/citigroup-sued-in-abu-dhabi-by-investor-over-fund-losses" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/ ... und-losses</a>

I think our owner made a few bob bailing out Barclays a few years ago though.

Well he did, but the legal battle between Abu Dhabi and Citigroup are stil on in the US.

The case is Citigroup Inc v. Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, No. 13-4825.

Makes it a little bit strange that they at the same time are negotiating a sponsor deal with us...

I have it on reasonably good authority that ADIA really won't have anything to do with Citi - they don't even like any of their contacts banking with them.
