When VK arrived, he had been used by Hamburg primarily as a defensive midfielder, I seem to remember.
I watched Hamburg a few times around that period, and he definitely played as a defensive midfielder. However, as with everything else, we now require a defensive midfielder of Champions League standard. (and that's why we still miss De Jong and Garcia)
VK has never played midfield other than emergency cover before City. This a consistent error people make and a myth that refuse to go away as he is good in midfield on computer games and that cover was near when we bought him. One of his midfield partners was Jerome Boateng.
In regards to this news - it means little. Rekik, Lopes, Nimely, Guidetti and many others were classed as part of the squad already in the last few years. When they are playing a decent numbers of games then we will talk.
Ipresume much of the forum is upset at this news, vehemently arguing in the last few weeks that they are not good enough for us.

No my argument was most players needed a loan period to be good enough. Lopes and Denayer have had this, Not sure Rekik will make the jump. Iheanocho may be the exception. The players you wanted in at the end of the season will follow the same path. I dont know why people are writing off Fernando, Javi Garcia and MDM both got slated in their first year with us and then came good. Its a big thing to move go a new league and some takd longer to adjust than others.

I think at 12m most people understand that he was a budget buy to get another body in whilst under restriction. He signed for what we sold Rodwell for, for comparison
Always going to be a 'might surprise but probably squad player' scenario. He will retain most of his value so not really a big problem

If Garcia had some pace he would have been great, much better on the ball than Fernando IMO when he eventually stopped sh*tting himself everytime someone passed the ball to him
