It’s not a problem restricted to Spanish clubs. It’s a problem across most of Southern Europe and all of Eastern Europe. Only trouble with trying to educate is the majority don’t even consider that it may be wrong. I remember hearing from one of the guys who blacked up at the Grand Prix that time and was abusing Lewis Hamilton. He was genuinely totally flummoxed as to what the issue was.
I read an article many years ago which claimed some fans in southern Europe see skin colour as just another physical feature and calling someone for being black was the same as calling them for being tall, short, fat, bald or ginger. It then claimed more obvious abuse of black players was just an extension of this idea.
It was bollocks and just served to underplay racist tendencies, but was said to be accurate at the time.
