City early 90s

Thats about right. Mind you, Reid's side was a bit one dimensional: win the ball, spray it out to the right, long cross to Quinn, knock down, win second ball, shoot.
I don't know what happened to Quinn, but he was always very complimentary to us previously and talked about the spirit at City. Disco pants was said to have its origin in a drunken Quinn dancing on the table in a bookies.
Always liked Quinn at City and was very popular at the time but could be frustrating.
To a certain extent reminded me a little of Dzeko. Bit of a 'target man' ,big beanpole up front, scored loads but when he had an off day he was off! ( Obviously Quinn never had the quality around him that Edin did.)
Apart from his penalty saving heroics remember the hatrick at Crystal Palace being one of his best games. Remember it being described as the 'perfect hatrick' one with the left, one with the right and one with the head!

Took my lad to his first game in the 1993/4 season, which was the 2-0 loss to Blackburn at Maine Road, just before Peter Reid was sacked. So he would have been 6 at the time. He couldn't sit still at the best of times and this game definitely wasn't the best of times. At one point he loudly announced. "This is boring. Why can't we go and watch United?'' to great amusement.

But while he wasn't too excited about the football he absolutely loved the post-game demo on the forecourt and wanted to come back for another.
I remember thrashing Blackburn on a beautiful sunny day, can't remember if it was 4 0 or 6 0 think it was early season. I can't remember what year it was all I remember for sure is Derek Parlane got a hat trick. Anyone know what year it was . Friend who's a Bear was absolutely delighted.

1983/84 season and yes 6-0
I had spent the summer travelling around the States and this was my first game back.

My lad, who is 19 now, isnt into football at all. His first 6 games were when pearce was in charge, he didnt see us score a goal! In 6 games! He just never got that bug you need and tho i laboured on with him it was a lost cause.
Cheers pearce, you prick

You need to factor in minutes on the pitch. He barely ever started under Reid and wasnt involved at times. But when he Came on he scored. Heath by comparison had 4 goals in 75 games mostly starts. It was a disgrace how Allen was treated. Colin Hendry the same!

Another good away day from that time

I know it shouldnt bother me, and generally it doesnt, but the emptyhad/no support jibes piss me off when im reminded how fucking fantastic our support has always been

I remember a large proportion of the early 90s teams had the same nickname - or at least did on the Kippax

Wayne “f*cking” Clarke
Ricky “f*cking” Holden
Alan “f*cking” Harper
Gary “f*cking” Megson
Adrian “f*cking” Heath
David “f*cking” Brightwell

I’m glad that “FFS” Mahrez and “FFS” Jesus have continued this fine tradition

I've got everything wrong today! I'm more decrepit than I thought. Sorry all for my mashed-up memories.
No worries, I can only remember things if I've got a frame of reference to help me. 1990/91 was my first year at Uni.
If you ask me about ANYTHING that happened between about 2000 and 2020 it all just gets mixed together. A couple of days ago I watched a video of the cup semi-final when we beat un*t*d and couldn't believe SWP was still playing for us, thought he'd left long before then :)

This gives a good perspective. Curle ands Phelan were good players, Phelan at his best was a rapid left footed Zabelta - but he was not always at his best. Curle was always a class act, fast & strong, positionally great, loved getting stuck in - a slim line Kompany.

But we struggled for a partner for Curle. If we had kept hold of Hendry then we would have had a CB pair as good as if not better than anyone. Ricky Holden was a tricky winger with all the pace of a sunday league player after a heavy night out, madness that we bought him and sold hendry and lost cash on the way.

The loss of Paul Lake was a blow - especially when you think Garry Flitcroft followed him through and he went on to win the title with Blackburn. A midfield of Lake / Flitcroft would again be as good as anyones.

Its also worth noting that the football of Kendall / Reid was pretty attritional. I think we had the pitch narrowed around this time. And with Quinny in the team it was always a favoured option to lump it forward.
Flitcroft went to Blackburn after they won the league early 96 before we went down.
