No, you're the one saying that, but I agree, you are talking absolute bollocks.

Well, by trivialising the crime by saying, "Well, if everyone paid their taxes & didn't do backhanders or partake in the black market then it wouldn't have been 25 quid, it would have been a lot less", and then making the distinction with crimes which we "would morally not commit" then you are suggesting that thieving is not such a big deal.
I didn't trivialise the crime. Fiddling your taxes & using the "blackmarket" is also theft. This theft requires the government to increase tax rates to cover the shortfall. The shopkeeper has to charge a higher price to cover this.
I'm sure that, if a situation arose where your kids are dieing from starvation, & your only option of keeping them alive is stealing the food then, morally, you'd let them die. Or, would your compass change?
Theft is theft & it can be wrong (as it is here) but, for me, someone fiddling their taxes for a couple of grand a year is a little more deserving of my wrath than a couple of scrotes grabbing a few tinnies from a shop. But I appreciate that your moral compass may be different. Which is why this thread can only be a shouting match - no one's compass is going to change.

You weren't on the other side of the counter though.

Do you have any understanding that they may have had a completely different viewpoint than yourself?
I don't think he has the IQ to see things from a view point other than his own.

-- Fri Sep 03, 2010 10:29 am --

The point I am making is that people actually think it is OK to steal. It is OK to take away their way of earning a living. What sort of twisted morals do you have? A grading system for crime? Shoplifting from ASDA ohh that's a 1 coz it's a big company, shoplifting from a corner shop ooh that's a 3 and so on and so on. Absolutely laughable.
If you notice my posts I haven't called for anyone to be banned from the club, as it is nothing to do with football.
I just can't understand and never will understand when it became acceptable to 1. steal and 2. justify such actions.

I know I said I wouldn't post anymore on this but......

Check my posts. At no point do I say it's ok to steal.

What I object to, and always object to on here, is the wailing and gnashing of teeth when anything is posted which is off the straight and narrow.

We've had people being branded as racists for singing about the size of Ade's knob; people jump down people's throat at the slightest hint of a joke in bad taste; only last week we had the ridiculous views of some regarding an ironic banner and now we have this.

I have always taken a 'laissez faire' atitude to life and it has done me well. It takes allsorts to make the world go round and although I won't condone theft, I won't get on my high horse about some young lads on a beano (pun intended) ballooning and getting in trouble.

Those lads will have to face the consequences of their actions. Not you, or anyone else on this thread who wasn't there. You aren't going to get batton charged at Wigan because of what happened. No-one will think worse of YOU because of what happened. So why can't you just shake your head and move on?

You suggested that the incident and this thread was a reflection of how society had "degenerated". On the contrary, far far worse than this used to happen on a regular basis before and after matches years ago so that argument really doesn't stand up.

Some sense on a ridiculous thread.

Some lads nicked some stuff. They got arrested. That's it.

The Sheikh isn't going to withdraw his cash, the football world isn't going to hate Manchester City fans, nothing is going to change. BArely anyone will have noticed.

It's like the Daily Mail on here sometimes. Unbelieveable.

If you think that 3000 away fans from any big city club doesn't include an element of scallies you are deluded. It's wrong and I wouldn't want stuff nicked from my shop if I had one, but some of you are acting like pompous arses about it.

I don't think the point is particularly that thieving is shocking or that the Skeikh is going to give a fuck, or even that the people responsible should be punished by the club. The point is that there's loads of people in this thread who seem to be leaping to the defence of these no mark little scumbags...certainly that's what I don't get.

Apparently I'm part of the PC brigade because my parents had the temerity to bring me up thinking that thieving is wrong...

It's not you I'm referring to Billy - of course thieving is wrong.

It's the "ban 'em from the club/disgrace to MCFC" brigade I think are overreacting.

Even if they are overreacting, I'm still more inclined to fall in their favour than the "it's just a laugh" brigade.

It wasn't a laugh when four lads walked into my uncle's cornershop and set about him with a fucking crowbar just to rob a few beers and hundred quid out of the till...

I know mate. Sorry to hear that.

But if these lads were on their way home from watching Accrington Stanley, it wouldn't be a slur on the good name of Accy Stanley, that's my point.

Totally see what you're saying DD...
