You wouldn't allow it with a rag, scouser, cockney, Geordie, etc so why is it different for a foreign fan... I am talking about their cheering a goal in our fans, if they do it they should expect a bit of shit cos we would if we did it in an away ground

I really don't mind who sits next to me as long as they are not an idiot, it happens at the cricket! I've sat next to Indians at a one dayer aussies at the ashes both at old Trafford all while pissed up. you'd stand in the close proximity of a utd fan watching football in a pub so why not in the ground? foreign fans are easier to accept coz they not a direct threat to our domestic game! I really cant understand some peoples thick headedness we have some real arsehole supporters nowadays.

what would you do in a world cup/euros scenario when everybody sits together?
you haven't seriously compared cricket to football, ffs... Derby day at ours, one rag fan jumped up celebrating and was chased out of the block and all over the concourse, till he ran into the commonwealth suite to escape, deserved every slap he got, same as one of us would if we jumped up in the Gladys street end for instance... Not a chance do I want away fans in and around me while we playing in our stadium

What you probably don't get is that 95% of the fans have no desire to chase anyone out of the stadium. Since we are a business we had best cater for the 95%.

From living in AUS and NZ its proved that fans can sit in mixed areas. It works because its never been any different and it applies at any ground you go to. If you go to an away ground, you expect to get grief and have to deal with it. In my experience it very rarely goes further than some verbals. ENG v NZ excluded.

Unless the entire English game changed to allowing you to sit anywhere for every game, it wont work. Simple as that. Away fans should know that theres going to be issues if they celebrate, which is why i sat on my hands when I went to everton and sat in their end. Respect is the key.

This thread is like one of those drunken pub arguments when somebody thinks that to win the debate he needs to repeat the same point, but a little bit louder.

Sensible away fans should be tolerated in the home end. Confrontational away fans should be ejected. There might be a grey line somewhere in the middle, but home fans should be more reflective before twatting an innocent victim who supports Tottenham or Sunderland, simply because his family moved to Manchester and it’s the only way that he can get a ticket.

Would you expect a London based City fan to be similarly ill treated at Arsenal or West Ham?

Perhaps you would, but that’s more an indication of your own personality

It's not the 80's anymore why people go to the match looking for a fight is beyond me! it's embarrassing and just casts a bad reputation to the club and fans and English people in general look what them Chelsea knobs did in Paris! reflects bad on football fans the club your supposed to love and the general English people!

going back to the topic there was no need for the idiot city fan to be so aggressive to the barca fans who cheered they didn't aim it at anybody and didn't rub it in anybody's face!

people just need to grow up and start acting their age!

We had two sat in front of us in 122 and they were sound as a pound, dad and lad. I saw the commotion in 124(?) a few lads seemed well miffed at something or other.

Nowhere near as bad as the Napoli fans, a few near us were right bells and had to go

If you tone it down and don't take the piss I don't see the problem myself.

i have sat in the " home " end at away euro a couple of times never had any trouble infact at madrid they where happy to see us wanted to chat and be friendly i know not all people at most clubs are not like that but if your a desent sort then most people will get on with you, same if they come to our ground they can sit next to me as long as they respect us, unless he is a rag then he gets a good kicking,

You see this is your problem. I have supported City since Mercer and Allison first came and in those long ago days I used to go to many away games. Sometimes, believe it or not, for a mid-week game I have taken two United supporters with me who have wanted a day off work! On other occasions they have offered me a ticket for a United game and I have said thanks very much and then stood up and applauded when they scored. My Dad was always a City fan and my uncle was United and I can remember as a child that they would go together, one week to watch City the next to watch United. After all its only a game.

I understand some people wanting to get together and bounce up and down as in the proposed new singing areas and I would agree that opposition supporters and neutrals be kept clear of such areas. As for the rest of the ground I would like to see sensible fans mixed together as happens in US sports I have attended where opposition fans happily sit side by side.
So would you go to the swamp now and clap if falcao scores???

If they were playing someone other than City, of course. Why not? I am a football fan. I like to see great players (although perhaps Falcao is not as great as they hoped!)

I've seen some comments on this site, but this is up with the fucking worst

I wouldn't clap United if it was for charity to save the entire worlds population from AIDS.
But kicking Barca fans out of our ground is being a little too territorial and precious.
