City Fans Leaving Early/Empty seats

A lot of comments about age, and to be honest I have thought this in the past that our fan base is ageing, I can say that as I am 53 !!

But it really is down to the individual, Im trying to get the atmosphere going so I have looked at the early leavers, late arrivals, non singers in singing section. The age group is mixed, young and old all it is all the same. I always look at home fans when at away games, in particular good singers example wolves. There was old and young together belting songs out, it was no different to our age group. The only time I have noticed younger fan base is when you see the ultras in the champions league and the euro fans come, they have around 70% young fans.

I think we all look for reasons / excuses and the norm is to say young fans are always on phones and old fans leave early & moan. Its not, it is the individuals of all ages that chose to do this. We have that mindset now and it isn't going to change over night.

I didn't realise in Scotland there has been no alcohol at stadiums for 40 years, how the fk have they managed to sing so well then !!!!!!!

Weirdly I think the atmosphere has improved this season but the early leavers has got worse.
This is from section 101 where the South stand are coming out louder this season.

Agree, atmosphere is getting better, it doesn't always travel around the stadium but if you are lower ss you hear it quite well.

But each year late arriving and early leaving seems to be worse. Getting in the stadium doesn't help, queues are bad.

I know it's never going to happen but it would be interesting to see how many empty seats we had if we could actually bring our alcoholic drinks to our seats (like they can in other sports). The amount of people leaving on 35 minutes for a half time pint seems to be getting bigger by the game - obviously the poor service at the bars is a factor in that. There's people late arriving because they're finishing their drinks in the concourse before the start of both halves. Of course booze isn't a factor in the early leavers at the end of the game - as people have already pointed out, the difference between staying till FT and going a few minutes before the end is huge. It's up to City to try to bridge that gap.. I don't know how anyone copes when they park in the official car parks as they appear to be waiting absolutely ages.

EDIT - I only just noticed there's a separate thread about drinking in your seats, apologies!

Of course it was.Thats the whole point of my original post.look at the crowd in Platt Lane on the video footage.5 mins to go in a Manchester Derby(back in the day when Manchester had two fine teams,ho hum)there are hoardes of folk making fheir way to the entrance, only slowed down by the fine entertainment provided by Marsh and Summerbee, down by the corner flag...the pace of the exit is flattened by our players taking the piss out of bobby charlton and martin buchan.
You say it wasnt like this at Maine road...it was when i was on the Kippax late 80s early 90s...every game you d see folk, some you were engaged in conversation with ,suddenly spin and head for the exit.it was part of Football.it happened. You say "we never had so many people leaving early"
How do you know? I can only speak for the fans on fhe Kippax terrace around me....looking across the pitch at the Main stand you would see folk jump up and bolt off with 15 mins to go...its what people do.i had to leave The Kippax many a time before the final whistle,to make sure i got the first bus back into town on a Saturday afternoon,so i could get the bus back to notts(3and a half hour journey)...if i missed that at 5.40pm.i was fucked.the next bus was 7.40 amd stopped at Derby...it didnt go on to notts.....didnt matter how exciting the game was towards the end-i had to make that bus! Thats just my experience. I put an awful lot of time and effort into seeing City in the 80s,i had football on the sunday morning to play..no way was i letting my team mates down-..basically ...when you gotta go....you gotta go...

So true. The Main Stand moaners used to leave at least 10 minutes before the end at Maine Road in the 60s and 70s. Those blue invalid cars started the exodus for everyone else! Most matches were not on TV those days and it happened everywhere.

Find it staggering that as we witness the best team and football ever played by a City team that we have empty seats and people leaving early on a regular basis .
