City Fans Leaving Early/Empty seats

A lot of younger people don’t want to go as they have probably never been. Unless their dad or whoever took them, they couldn’t go as kids can’t go in without adults.

Back in the day there wasn’t much else to do and you could decide on the day whether to go or not, including aways. You could go on your own. Younger lads have more choice now. You can watch most games in the pub with your mates and have 7 pints for half the price of going to the game. If you don’t want to do that you can stream it on an app. From what I see when out, younger lads are more bothered about hugging each other and spraying their hair full of Hairspray then going out for a few cocktails than going to a game
Think you hit the nail on the head with that post

My own comments on that site was that they didn’t even sell out 3000 tickets at £30 a few miles down the road on a Saturday at 15:00 but this thread isn’t about Burnley, it’s about us, and there are fucking loads of people filing out there from our section.
I'm fully aware what the thread is about thanks, I was just highlighting the hypocricy of burnley fans laughing at us when their own house isn't in particularly good order.

Just watched the footage of City v utd nov 1972 in the 'Rodney Marsh under Pep' thread and its noticeable ,that with 5 mins to go,there is a steady procession of fans heading for the exit in Platt Lane..as they watch Marsh and Buzzer male buchsn and charlton look silly at the corner flag..This is a derby match remember.
Made me think back to days on the Kippax, there were always fans leaving early to beat the traffic in the 80s /early 90s...no one moaned then, loads did it...
It wasnt anywhere near as noticeable on a terrace, but of course in an all seater stadium the issue is more pronounced
Maybe...just maybe..we (and other clubs) have always had hundreds of fans leaving early, there just wasnt the visible empty seats for folk to comment on.

We have never had this many people leaving early. Even a few years ago under Mancini it wasn’t as bad as it is. Your trying to defend it now, but it wasn’t like this at maine road or a few years ago.

I agree with the comments about younger people. Most young people including myself can barely afford to actually go to games and away games unless you know someone it’s near impossible to get tickets. Most young people 18-24 aren’t in the habit of going to games regularly and in a few years time English football will be screwed as the older generation aren’t being replaced.

Most younger people are in poorly paid first jobs, at uni or trying to afford a flat/house. The only way to get more in is to make it more affordable. I’ve noticed a big increase in young adults for cup games, for example

Same everywhere too. They scanned the Liverpool crowd after our game and it was a lot of people in their 50’s and older.

Be interesting to see how what crowds are like in 30-40 years when all the oldies are dead or too old to attend and technology is even more advanced than it is now.

Not interested in that at all, as I’m one of the dead you have just killed off :-(

yep. i barely know anyone my age that goes to watch live football regularly. you can see it at the games. most of the crowd is 50+. i think the way its going we will end up with empty stadiums for most clubs. go on a night out or a gig and theres loads of young people about. its the complete opposite with football and a lot of young people have no interest in it at all. also it used to be a working class game, but most working class young adults are priced out of going ( i.e. the core football support)

Liverpool's average Prem crowd this season is just under 53,000 in a 54,000 capacity stadium. Our average crowd is 54,000 in a 55,000 stadium. Their crowd is talked about as amazing. Our bigger crowd with a better attendance to capacity ratio gets slagged off.
