City fans writing John Stones off too early?

I think we have four great centre backs now and with the competition they will all need to be on their A game

Laporte was seen as the best centre back alongside Van Dijk last season. He’s now 3rd choice.

However, it can all change back just as quick. Could be a Laporte and Ake partnership if either Stones or Dias let their standards slip.

Last season we had one fit centre back for the majority in Laporte as Stones was injured and his head wasn’t right. We’ve now brought 2 more in and Stones has got his mojo back.

Crazy to think we still finished second, won the league cup, semi of the FA cup and QF Champs league.

It's how it needs to be or we end up like last year with the one key CB picking up an injury and the season is gone.

Difference in tactical approach makes a huge difference. Will he be able to replicate his old form in a more open system when covid ends and our football normalizes again, which i fully expect it to in the next 12-18 months.
I’m not sure I get this. We’re not playing a more pragmatic game because of COVID in my opinion. I think we are looking for an approach that makes us less suspect at the back with a view to being harder to beat in the CL where we have fallen short.

On John happy to say on this one I called it right saying that he was still a good player who needed a run in the team. A good player should never be written off.

Players get hyped and written off with ease nowadays at every club. Welcome to the new world order..

Happy to see John Stones playing well and consistently putting in good performances. The media might try to chip away at him for his lack of goals, an unnecessary dig, but he's not here for that. We now have a selection headache. Just need Mendy to step up now and claim that LB spot

Don't think COVID has much to do with the style we're playing tbh

John was really poor for a number of seasons, he knows he let himself down (i assume) and just couldn't get his mind and his body in the right place. Pep's right, it's too early to judge as we've been in similar positions with his where he has a run of games and looks amazing, but then has one injury and completely falls off a cliff. He'll pick up an injury, it's just then nature of how we play, it's about how he deals with that now.

I will admit I thought he was gone, and should probably go even as badly as I wanted him to succeed here as it more and more felt like an unrecoverable situation that we couldn't risk waiting for to change enough any longer.

The mistakes, the constant muscle injuries. They weren't going away.

If we're being honest we can probably now say it is mostly due to unforeseen circumstances that he's still here.

What we now know is that City felt the same way about moving on and Stones either accepted this or wanted it himself enough.

That the story he wanted to "fight for his place" might have not been the entire truth and that he was also ready to move on.

We signed Ake and were pursuing Koulibaly. Those were to be the replacements for Nico and Stones.

It was because Garcia demanded to go that City did an about face and Stones may have then decided he would stay.

Either way so far so good. Very excited for his presence.

Tells you a lot about how even when things appear to make sense and stuck one way they can change.

Yep, we’ve been here before with John, and more than once. He has had a great three months and is unrecognisable from the dishevelled, broken looking character of last year but I’ll still wait a while longer before I get the bunting out
