John was really poor for a number of seasons, he knows he let himself down (i assume) and just couldn't get his mind and his body in the right place. Pep's right, it's too early to judge as we've been in similar positions with his where he has a run of games and looks amazing, but then has one injury and completely falls off a cliff. He'll pick up an injury, it's just then nature of how we play, it's about how he deals with that now.

He played more than Kompany in the Centurions and Fourmidales season’s and was very good.

He had a couple of high profile mistakes, notably for England in the Nations League, in the Carabao Cup final and Norwich away, when the whole back 4 was a disaster.

People just tended to knee-jerk on his mistakes and let it completely cloud their judgement on what a fine player he is.

The Carabao Cup final being a prime example. He was very good in the game, but made one costly mistake, so people assumed he was a disaster on legs the entire season.
