Nothing particularly new in this article from Duncan Castles, but there definitely seems a be a ground swell of anti-FFP sentiment in the media, which we didn't see originally. I think the penny is finally dropping with people:

Midway through the summer window, Paris Saint-Germain persuaded one of Europe's most accomplished footballers to join them. The French champions had the money to cover both a stratospheric transfer fee and a remuneration package that would have made the player one of the best-paid sportsmen on the continent.

There was just one problem: UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations.

As part of a penalty for failing to meet the European governing body's break-even targets, PSG were already committed to reducing their annual deficit to €30 million this season and zero the next, while keeping wage costs no higher than 2013/14 levels. To abbreviate a complex story, they couldn't sign their man and meet those targets.
Good job they didn't sign him then as Phil Jones has been injured for much of the season so far.

Re: City & FFP (continued)

Castles wrote that because Mourinho spoke out against FFP. It's always good to have new people 'on board' but the timing of his article after Mourinho's rant some days ago leaves no doubt in my mind given Castles' history of cheerleading Mourinho/Mendes.

Hehe. It does at least shed light on the fact that PSG were never just sticking their fingers up to FFP like some claimed. No matter how much I'm sure they'd love it to get chucked in the bin they're still planning on complying and playing in Europe.

Wonder which one of the big 2 it was?

There was a spate of anti-FFP articles in the British media a few weeks ago. I thought at first that maybe they'd finally seen the light but the cynic in me suspects that someone who has the ear of the press had been briefing against it.

I heard on the radio that Hull City are being investigated as they are thought to have fallen foul of the FFP regulations, now this may be where the tide of public opinion starts to change. If a club like Hull can be sanctioned sfter their moderate spend but the rags can spend what they are then people will see how this rule protects the so called big clubs.

admittedly the rags cant fail FFP until they aspire to Hulls level and get European football so it isn't like for like.

however it will make people think, basically they are being told that now they have got Europa football they sre going to be stopped investing so they cant threaten CL.
I think this will start clubs realising what ffp is really all aboutit also could mean some clubs would pull out of the europa league, almost guaranteed if the fines are bigger than the cash they would make. ffp days must be numbered.
What a great point you have just made .have read nearly every page of this thread and never givern a thought to the europa league..
Like you say some teams may pull out .
BUT some teams may chose not to qualify .
The implications of this could be massive .at the end of the season a team playing to be champions playing a team from 5/10 down who don't want to win WOW

There will be nothing other than a slap on the wrist for Hull. They have never been a threat to anyone. City are a different kettle of fish. We are a threat to the establishment and stopping City forcing entry is what FFP is all about. Its now just a matter of UEFA formulating a few words to get themselves off the hook of their own making, and I'm sure they will succeed.

You're right it is an excellent point that hasn't really been raised before. Some serious food for thought.

Just as a side note, am i right in saying that the FFP being put in place for the Premier league follows the same principles as the Uefa model, if so then clubs who had previously voted in favour of the regulations may want to reconsider.
