City & FFP | 2020/21 Accounts released | Revenues of £569.8m, £2.4m profit (p 2395)

Re: City & FFP (continued)

A colleague of mine works for United on match days. The word coming out of OT is that they want to avoid qualifying for the Europa League so they can gain more revenue from lucrative friendlies. She is adamant that they will ensure they fail to win on Sunday so they don't go above Spurs. If there is any truth in this then it requires a more serious sanction than anything we receive. It is match fixing.
One blessing regarding a ban for us is that it would scupper their plans.

Sorry but they have.Man City had a license in 2013/14 that's the one that's being assessed along with all the other 200+ clubs that played in either the CL or EL last season. The FA don't send a list of the clubs who have been granted a 2104/15 licence until the season is over and its known who has qualified for UEFA tournaments. Liverpool will be included

Once Liverpool are granted a licence then their accounts will be examined in accordance with the monitoring requirements and around this date in 2015 we will know if they have failed.

They've only assessed 76 clubs. As for dippers, they'll be competing in the same competition as us, under very different rules. I'm no legal person but I'd say there might be an issue there for UEFA.

All clubs that took part in UEFA competitions were assessed.

UEFA then looked further at 76 <a class="postlink" href="clubshttp://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/287581.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">clubshttp://www.espn.co.uk/football/spo ... 87581.html</a>

We could easily walk away, but it's the players we'd have to worry about. A good number of them would be OK with it, but someone like Aguero aspires to win the Champions League I'm sure.

A 1 year sabbatical would be no risk to the playing squad, IMO, but an indefinite withdrawal could see some of our big hitters become unsettled.

And thats the bottom line mate.Puts a lot of pressure on us then trying to attract the top players during the summer.

Re: City & FFP (continued)

If, as we are led to believe most of the clubs have accepted their punishment, can UEFA afford the risk of us taking it to the courts. Defeat in the courts at a later stage and FFP being ruled illegal would surely leave them open to being sued by all the clubs who had in the first instance been fined but also surely all the clubs that had had theirs business's restrained by the rules could also sue.

They looked at all those clubs that made a loss in 11/12. They disregarded everyone else.

That is not an assessment.

Listen. A lot of you are saying City aren't in a position to walk away from the Champion's League.

Let me tell you, we are.

The CHAMPION'S league is a competition which relies on it's prestige. UEFA will not ban us. They won't ban the Champion's of any country because it will fracture and devalue the competition.

Durham is defending us now on talkSPORT but they have been a disgrace over the last few years so they should fuck off.

Of course City are in a position to walk away from the Champions League.

But it's the sentiment that this will damage UEFA more than us that is wrong.

Mate, you might think it's "a farce", but if it was it wouldn't be the biggest sporting competition there has ever been.
Give me the premier league title anyday over the chumps league DD.

Re: City & FFP (continued)

It now seems pretty clear that the whole FFP process was a sham.

The FFP that should be in place was handed to the ECA and we got a bastard child of the old G14.

But even those rules were basically warped to get punishments in place.

The truth is that the club and its owner(s) can easily afford to pay the fine and we could also get by with a struggle with the squad limitations too.

But late last month a line was crossed which, I am reliably informed, proved that there is no point in MCFC trying to 'negotiate' the way forward with UEFA.

What happens next could surprise us all but I for one expect a pretty serious move away from UEFA and FFP or for UEFA to to put a hold on some parts of FFP until a legal challenge has run its course.

Could be an interesting summer.

I keep asking about this. If we initiate formal legal proceedings, can we ask for an injunction pending judgement or can't we?
