City & FFP | 2020/21 Accounts released | Revenues of £569.8m, £2.4m profit (p 2395)

Blocking Newcastle's sponsorship doesn't have any legs to stand on. They are in effect blocking all sponsorship's by any company registered in SA..... But only for Newcastle!!! Not for Arsenal (Emirates), not for United (Business Partnership) but only targeting NUFC.

To achieve this they are effectively going to have to block/blacklist Saudi Arabia as a country for all business with the PL - But then what happens with Sheffield Utd, owned by Saudi royalty, what if they get promoted to the PL. Its a desperate attempt but what it does achieve is more bad publicity for those clubs that are a threat to the profits of the yank clubs.

Hmmm, Emirates isn't a KSA company....

Man are they panicking now.

For ten years the big 2 have been City and Chelsea so with two CL gravy train places left the rags and dippers have been able to muddle along reasonably well. Everybody now knows that in 5 to 10 years the big 3 will be firmly established as City, Chelsea and Newcastle. Either the rags or dippers are going the way of Arsenal.

Bit optimistic and I hope you're right but Rags and Arsenal and before them Liverpool were top of the tree. Look what happened to them. Success doesn’t continue for ever!

Purely speculative that Mr Tolmie - zero chance that sponsorship deal would be impacted.

It's why I said they should only be sweating. However, depending on how far the Premier League want to cut the likes of Newcastle and City now off at the knees, there are significant alliances and commercial leverages to fight back with.

All this will do is accelerate the introduction of a Super League.

Newcastle are still among the favourites to go down this season, and there's no certainty of signing players capable of keeping them up in January. If they go down, they'll be struggling to reach PL top 4 status for years.

If they stay up this season, they'll be in serious competition with the likes of Arsenal, Spurs, and possibly Villa, to attract players of the quality required to make an effective challenge.

To keep it simple... Given the choice of London or Newcastle, London will always win out for foreign players. Arsenal and Spurs have the better recent history and established reputations in Europe. Newcastle have nothing.

Newcastle have money. The single 'requirement' to join a Super League from day one. They've probably already been invited to join, and will be there like a shot, just like City and the rest.

FFP won't be of any concern once the Super League arrives. Give it 5 years and PL games will probably be showing on Quest TV.

The really big money has arrived... Expect things to progress. FFP as we know it is dead.
Disagree. They’re maybe a year behind where we were when the great Thaksin sold up. Assuming they stay up they’ll be pushing for the top 4 by 24/25 at the latest. I don’t buy the London theory, Manchester’s pretty similar to Newcastle, the same northern city it always was just with a few more twats living in town now. A Louis Vuitton doesn’t really change things much yet we’ve attracted the world’s best players and kept them here.

Top players want $$$ and a working environment conducive to success, if Newcastle provide that then money, as it always has in the past, will talk and they’ll be successful

Don't agree with that. As much as I'm not a fan of Soriano he'll be reporting back that they are are all fucking idiots. And he is right.

As per project river twitter: Haven't done the maths but I bet its something like 50-60% of non matchday/non broadcast gross revenue of European football over the last 10 years came from Asia, Middle East and Russia. Perhaps another 20% from betting. Football is in denial."

Then what about all the players they want to offload to Newcastle with high fees.....

Turkeys voting for xmas springs to mind...

You don't believe that some clubs are more equal than others?

We only have to see the power certain clubs wield within the Premier League.

I don't think Arsenal/Emirates should be sweating in the slightest - there is absolutely no reason for them to do so.

I used to think the Dubai and Abu Dhabi relationship would hold some sway with our FFP disputes. Yet, Arsenal have always been at the forefront of do anything they can to hold us back so I'm not sure it is really relevant.

City will just swat all this away. We are too entrenched in the system and deep down they like our money.

Dont United have a sponsorship deal with a company that sponsors well over what they earn (or only exist on paper) - pretty sure i saw Rabin post something on it awhile ago.

Totally agree. We have seen nothing to support this view over the last 10 years.

Good point about Arsenal, although I think the more the Premier League change the rules to see fit, there will inevitably be bedfellows on the other side, namely Saudi and the UAE, who have tremendous influence on commercial deals, should they require a nuclear option.

I don't think they can touch it, as already appraised as a related party and at market value.
Etihad is not a related party, as per City, our auditors and CAS. There's absolutely no connection between our owner and Etihad, apart from Sheikh Mansour being a member of the Abu Dhabi ruling family. That's not enough.

Prince Charles sold off his Duchy Originals brand but if they had sponsored Cheltenham Town while he owned it, would that make Cheltenham state-sponsored? Of course it wouldn't.

We even have an Etihad non-exec on our board and that's not even enough to make them a related party.

City, Chelsea and Newcastle v Man U, Liverpool, Arse. Real money v debt.

All sounds a bit fairer now. Won’t be so easy for the history clubs to push through their agenda, as new alliances are formed.
