City 'have made bid for Fernando Torres'

Been trawling through Sunday papers. Lot of Torres "stories" - all different versions, but most linking him to Chelsea

NOTW carrying a story about ticket sales at City

Rumour mill will go into overdrive when the World Cup finishes

Can't stand the NOTW but I must admit, the headline about the Russian bloke at West Ham: 'I'm Forever Blowing Roubles' made me chuckle.

I Personally think Torres will go to Chelsea, we pull out of a bidding war and get one of their strikers from them instead.

Can you remember us pulling out of a bidding war since Abu Dhabi took over?

Have we had a bidding war with anyone full stop.?? cant think of any.

There is no way we should give the red dippers £100m - their whole squad is hardly worth that. Torres may be worth up to £50m not a penny more - if they want £70 or £100m - we should walk away - we can do better business elsewhere.

No..and that´s for a reason, it´s a fight they simply can´t win. Even Chelsea admitted that.

-- Sun Jul 11, 2010 9:24 am --

Really...where elsewhere?

Dzeko or Ibra may not be Premiership proven but they are reasonable bets and you could get both for circa £60m - without helping the dippers financially - don't forget we already have Tevez and Ade - so we need to think carefully - wanting Torres is one thing - single handedly bailing out the scouse is another. Paying £100m for Torres will pile so much more pressure on to us (as a club) and in particular Mancini and you can see a scenario where Torres may take 3 or 4 months to find his fitness and form and the media will have a field day and probably unsettle us big time.

I think City top brass would like Torres but wont want to hang a round for a long winded affair. I reckon they will make a good offer. If the dippers say no then we will move for the alternative, realalistic targets such as Dzeko or Ibra. RM is eager to get his squad together as early as possible. Once the WC is over that can happen as we know. Dont think we should pay more than 50m for Torres, i dont think he's worth that but think that is what it will take.

Got to agree totally with this. Handing Liverpool £100m for a currently out of form, not sure if he will ever get back to where he was Torres would be madness. Let Chelsea blow their entire transfer budget on him. We could buy Dzeko and Ibrahimovich for £100mill and prob have change for Milner as well. Even if he and Gerrard stay at Liverpool they won't make top 4 especially if they sell Mascherano.

100m for Torres ?
No club in the world would be stupid enough to pay anything like that amount.
