City, how different to the Glazers?

The 'nectar' points system would be an absolute disgrace. Loyalty supporting your team is not about buying a pint or a sausage.

It would take away freedom of choice and in a democratic society it should never be accepted.

In other words, you'd have to become a morbidly obese alcholic to keep up your points total up.

As pointed out, the cup scheme has been round a while but it doesn't suit everyone.

My ST is in CB Level 3 which means you rarely get your own seat anyway so I sit in different parts of the ground for cup matches just to see games from a different viewpoint.

People have varying definition of loyalty, I suppose.

There is a slight contradiction, as part of the argument here is that freedom of choice is now slowly been chipped away.

But a season ticket, buy into the cup direct scheme, or you are fooked.

I think the Nectar points would be a great idea, as the ability to afford a season-ticket should not define you as loyal above those who can't.

Why can't average Joe attempt to bump up their loyalty kudos by putting in money they do have to buy beer and food on the premises?

I would extend it to points for using the Metrolink to the stadium. Investing not only in City but in Manchester.

Season ticket holders already get 20 per cent discount for purchases in the store.

The reverse is easily implentable. A guy who can't lay his hands of £500, might have £50 burning a hole in his pocket at any one game.

Spend it on City if that is their want and should be rewarded.

I honestly couldn't agree any less with what you're saying. Loyalty is not about spending your money (ie points for away games where the ticket money does not go to City) but is about attending games through thick and thin.

As for the putting the money into Manchester...it would take away money from Manchester at a very fast rate. The pubs and food places around the ground would close and anywhere selling sports stuff would have to stop stocking City gear. Also, loyalty points for pints? Never going to happen as there would be riots every game with pissed up blues trying to get 50 points per match.

It is like we are wanting new systems for the new fan base well I'm sorry that is wrong. We have all been there at one time or another when we have been too young to have enough points for the big games. I was 18 at Blackburn in 2000 and had a season ticket and had been to loads of games in those previous couple of seasons but I didn't stand a chance of getting a ticket through the club. Rightly so too.
It's just tough really, decades of support overshadows a beer in the ground, a trip to Notts County and a home shirt for the season. If the club started going down that route I'd start to get seriously worried.

And as for your comment about the cup scheme, I've been to every home cup game this year. Couldn't afford to sign up though, as I couldn't guarantee that I'd have the money in my account for every game. Does that mean I deserve to go to the final less than somebody who could?

I don't think membership of cup direct means that anyone deserves a ticket over anyone else, but there seems to be this thinking that going to every home game is "as good" for the club as being a member of the scheme.

It's not IMO, and people who enrol in the scheme do deserve some sort of reward for signing up. For me, that reward should only go as far as bonus loyalty points, jumping in the queue ahead of people with more points shouldn't be allowed (even though I took advantage for the semi).
Oh I agree that there should be a reward.

For me it would have been something like:

First day sales: 6000 points, or 5500 if on the CDS.
Second day sales: 5500 points, or 5000 if on the CDS.
Third day sales: 5000 points, or 4500 if on the CDS.
Fourth day sales: 4500 points, or 4000 if on the CDS.
etc. It gives them a slight advantage, but doesn't take the piss.

One thing for certain I'll be signing up to the direct scheme for next season! I've missed 3 home games all season, for certain reasons! So signing up is no hard ship!

For me the CDS reward should be double the loyalty points of each cup game. Anything else is rewarding the wrong kind of loyalty. (ie imo the rewarded ones should be those that have been to games for decades not one or two seasons).

I agreed with the club doing what they did in the semi though and even what they have done for the final but that's because I haven't/won't be affected by them getting tickets.

One thing for certain though is the demand to join the CDS next season will double/treble and that is what the club want!

The idea of getting points for merchandise/beer/burgers is terrible, they should be for attending games, that way they're built up over time, you shouldn't be able to buy 'loyalty' at a store or a bar.

Spot on, can't say fairer than that.

I would suggest that a tipping point ( ;-) ) will be reached for some of the fans who have replied on this thread.

The idea of Nectar style points may be anathema to some but I would get your head around it being something that is most definitely going to happen.

Without wanting to upset anyone you can also lay money on the 'Nectar' idea also branching out into other 'leisure' activities as well.

But there will also be another use for the points where you gain access to players, open days, training sessions at the new mini-stadium in the training complex.

Perhaps even some coaching for parents who align a youth team to City?

When it comes down to it the definition of a loyal fan is going to be different moving forward.

sorted
means i'd get tickets for the swamp

Those of us in the CDS this season will get priority over people who join the CDS next season so all's good, loyalty pays.
I've still yet to hear the name of the person that is deciding on the changes to the criteria & how this one person has aquired the experiance or knowledge to do it,or is someone pulling his/her strings.
To keep altering things at random like he/she is doing surely comes from the person doing similar at another club, who's the new club mega brain behind it.

Tis the only way, the more you contribute the more valued a customer you are, doesn't matter whether spent in the shop or attending games pounds spent equal points and points means prizes. Just a shame that those who have a lot of money will be the ones getting the prizes :-(
