The one Law wore looks more orange than yellow to me, Peter.Dyed Petya said:The 1989 visit to Arsenal wasn't the first time City wore yellow. There's a picture of Denis Law in the first edition of Manchester - The Greatest City wearing a kit with yellow shirts, white shorts and yellow socks with maroon trim in a game at Leeds in 1960-ish.

I remembered it as yellow but I could easily be wrong. Haven't seen that pic for a long time, as my copy of the book is in storage in England. I do remember that it wasn't the maroon I'd have expected us to be wearing as an away kit in those days, anyway.
Bloody hell, what a great find! Is that Stuart Hall commentating? Presumably the commentary was done many years later.Dyed Petya said:Well, this is in black and white, but it's footage of Law's debut (found the link on newsnow a few minutes ago, coincidentally!) - the kit is far too dark to be yellow, though, and the commentator calls it old gold and black. So neil jung is right, basically, and we were kitted out as Wolves!

The City director who was also one of the Umbro owners - Humphries I think? - decided to "try out" this new yellow kit without telling Swales, who unusually was missing the match at Highbury for some reason and was not happy when he found out about it.
