Intellectual property can be worth millions (or more) to the legitimate owner and our badge design should fall into that. Imagine if City launched a social media site called Facebuk or an electronic market place called Emazon......we'd be in court in no time. Get it sorted City.

You can't just infringe on other people's intellectual property, it doesn't matter one bit how big or small you are.

Surely if you were starting a new football club one of the most fun bits would be designing the badge..

Clubs have always been inspired by successful clubs of the time. Wasn't our red and black away kit originally inspired by Milan? There are at least 2 Everton's in South America. Is there genuinely any risk of someone confusing the two? If not, who gives a shit that a presumably semi-professional team is using a badge that's similar to ours?

As for all this "if you allow one, then you'll lose the right to enforce your copyright," the club are completely free to pick and choose when to enforce copyright (assuming they have a case - a cease and desist letter just means that some brand manager and lawyer think it's a copy, not that it actually is) and the fact that they allowed it in one case isn't a defence for anyone else who copies the badge.

Many years ago we had a running club with the initials RR and we made up a badge with the initials intertwined just like the Rolls Royce badge. This maker of luxury cars somehow found out and we got a legal letter telling us to stop using it in case our little group of fun runners were confused with said luxury car makers.

The findings in copy-right cases are down to "judgements", there seems to be no cast-iron defaults, or redress if proven. Supermarket shelves are full of packaging mimicing "big" brands, in shape colours and fonts/artworks etc. If the bogus stuff is owned/manufactured abroad then the water is further muddied. Shrewd response by CFG would be to offer a sponsorship "deal" in return for compliance, a few team strips what-ever. The whole thing is probably an automated response from a bot in the PR server.
