City launch legal action against the Premier League | City win APT case (pg901)

The legality of APT as a concept was upheld, just not the 2 most recent additions. City argued the whole thing was unlawful and failed.

It’s not arguable that was a major victory for the PL, if City had succeeded in that there’d be no APT rules right now, and as it stands we’re just back to 2020 rules.

People can argue about whether City thought they’d actually win that argument or not, but the fact is they made the argument and lost and the PL is in a much much better position than they’d be if that claim had been upheld.
I'm struggling to compute the comment of the prem "being in a much, much, better position" than if they lost all the claims against them.

That's like saying a bloke is in a much, much, better position losing only 75% of his monthly pay at the casino than losing 100% of it.

Technically, it is correct, but also he has lost 75% of his money. And in the grand scheme of things, his Mrs is not seeing the much, much, better position.

The premier league have been outed in a brutal fashion, that they clung onto a few scraps of victory is not a result for them at all. The damage to their reputation is immense, no matter how they spin it. When they lose the 115 charges soap opera the whole system will be cleared out.

It's not unusual for companies in breech of competition law to be fined, in the UK it's 10% of your income. If that does happen, and furthermore legal costs and even city sueing for loss of income is on the cards, where is all that money coming from?

I think we've all seen Masters is a dead man walking for some time, certainly City did when we made those comments about his understudy being so gracious to attend our premier league winners crowning last season.

The endgame here is not to dispose of all rules, nor to open up a free for all. It's to bring a fairness and transparency of a legally sound framework for each member club to adhere to, even if they'd rather be kept blindfolded, and to remove the diseased self-appointed aristocracy of the English game to prevent them continuing to shape the game to their benefit.

If the premier league is the glass house.....
I would the endgame would be to completely ruin the club's who came after us.
Mind you one of them is having a go at that with out us.
600 million wasted on absolutely nothing

From the Times article about the ruling:

As I said months ago, and immediately after the ruling was released, it is a real head scratcher why many clubs—especially Arsenal—where so intent on undermining our challenge both privately and publicly…
Might be answered elsewhere but why are Everton and Chelsea backing us if they have large shareholder loans in place?

I’m not missing any point, a poster asked if the PL actually won anything at all and the answer is yes.

You can claim the club didn’t have a problem with the original APT rules, that doesn’t change the fact they just spent a lot of time and money trying to get them thrown out, the rules were on the line and we were unsuccessful, which is a win for the PL.

It might not be something the club are devastated about, but it’s ridiculous to claim that winning an argument at arbitration isn’t a win when the consequences of losing would have been huge.

They’re entitled to celebrate that because they’d be absolutely fucked if we’d won.
what you are saying is fundamentally wrong as they were never trying to get the rules thrown out, they were against a specific part of the rules in the amendments and how they were specifically applied to us which they successfully challenged, the club have never been against financial constraints when applied fairly, what the pl are doing is haphazardly trying to save face and is akin to someone nicking my car but leaving the badges and me saying well they didnt take everything so thats a win.

Yeah but it isn't retrospectively applied. So they'll have to factor in an extra £20m for the loans or so however in reality what you'll see is a massive Walmart sponsorship deal at whatever value the Kroenkes can get away with so I don't think it affects Arsenal in reality as that will just replace the shareholder loans. It's the same money basically.

Smaller clubs without super wealthy owners who own other massive companies may feel it more though.
What you thinking will be your punishment?
Relegation?
Points deduction?
Transfer ban for 5 years?

Oh this is fun saying all this to a fan of a club who wants to see us shot down in flames.
