City launch MLS Franchise

Think this is a great idea for the "long term" future of City.

But not in Manchester...

I just have a nagging feeling that The MLS will grow and continue to grow, eventually NYCFC will become the dominant team (over MCFC)

Just feels like we've been a guinea pig for ADUG.

Also, Yankees partnered with The Rags a few years ago... I remember as I had a Yankees baseball cap that I threw in the bin when they partnered with 'em
I don't think I could disagree more strongly Ste.

Aside from the obvious ADUG PR benefits I wonder whether this might give us access, on the longer term, to the South American players market?

The New York Yankees are the investor.
A minority partner which presumably means we take most of the hit for any losses. And they'll likely to be considerable in the early years

Anyone would think that Sheikh Mansour was short of a few bob. He could pay for New York City out of his back pocket. Shares on the London Stock Exchange are at a 14 year high and I guess Abu Dhabi investments aren't doing to bad either.

lol, if the whole lot went tits up city, america his little race track would he notice would he fuck its like one of us on here losing a penny down the sofa

New York Citeh: Manchester City buy new Major League Soccer club

Remember before Christmas when City publicly said they were NOT buying an MLS club? Turns out they ARE, and it doesn't look like an accident

Where does the time go? One minute you're wrapping up Christmas presents and NOT buying a Major League Soccer franchise. Next minute you're dusting off your budgie smugglers, and you ARE buying a Major League Soccer franchise.

Former English champions Manchester City have been swept along by the tide of events and have gone into partnership with locally celebrated bat-and-trap club the New York Yankees to purchase the newest 'expansion' team in the MLS.

The New York-based team will provide rivalry for the NY Red Bulls' home for strolling greats.

The club, to be called New York City, or Citeh, is expected to begin playing the soccer in 2015 - it doesn't have a ground yet, but deys working on its, and if youse don'ts likes it 'go whack yourself off', as the locals say.

Manchester City will own the majority of the new club. It's an exciting opportunity thing.'

New York City FC to announce first front-office staff member on Wednesday

New York City FC will announce their first front-office staff member at a Wednesday morning news conference, the newest MLS expansion club announced.

NYCFC – owned by English Premier League powers Manchester City FC and Major League Baseball's New York Yankees – are likely to name their director of football.

"Actually, we will appoint and we will create a whole new organization starting today," Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano told reporters at MLS headquarters in New York City on Tuesday. "So we'll have a director of football, we'll sign a coach and we'll sign the appropriate coach for the team.

"We don't know yet whether it's going to be American, or South American or English," Soriano added. "The first thing we will do is appoint the director of football because in the next 18 months we need to create a team from scratch. So to select players and we need to make sure when we start playing in April 2015, we have a competitive team."

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and MLS Commissioner Don Garber are also scheduled to attend the news conference on Wednesday morning at PS 72 Lexington Academy in Harlem.

Here you go chaps. This snippet might shed some light on why City are the majority stakeholder in New York City, alongside the New York Yankees.

World's 3rd biggest sporting franchise.

#3 New York Yankees
Value: $1.85 billion
Owner: Steinbrenner family

The Yankees are just part of a money making machine that also includes the YES Network and Legends Hospitality. YES, the team's 34%-owned regional sports channel, is the most profitable RSN in the country with operating income of more than $200 million. Legends, the stadium management and concessions company owned by the Yankees, Dallas Cowboys and Goldman Sachs, signed a deal last year to sell season tickets at the San Francisco's 49ers new stadium. The enterprise value for the Yankees, YES and Legends is estimated to be $5.5 billion.

In the renewal packet they sent out for seasoncards it said legends hospitality was working with Jamie Oliver on the stadium food. Pretty interesting relationship. Wonder if this will help us with ffp and the Yankees with the ridiculous revenue sharing they have to pay to all the other teams in the MLB
