City launch MLS Franchise

Interestingly I saw an article - I don't remember where - which commented that the very same Queens politician who has spoken out in an attempt to declare the Flushing Meadows stadium a no-go just happens to be receiving campaign donations from not one but two rival bidders for the very same site (including the NY Mets, who have quite clearly become hostile to us since the link-up with the Yankees was announced)...

Also in other but related news, empireofsoccer.com released this article earlier today - it's entirely speculation, but it details 10 possible sites to build a stadium in NYC, complete with pros, cons and a ranking on feasibility at the end:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.empireofsoccer.com/10-possible-locations-for-a-soccer-stadium-in-nyc/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.empireofsoccer.com/10-possib ... um-in-nyc/</a>

According to NY sources it´s our Martin Edelmann that handles the stadium negotiations..Funny this that we had a hotshot property lawyer on our board, from New York that is.
One wonders if this "Global City" blueprint was planned already 2008?

I think most people say that Edelman was first recruited to the board for the Etihad Campus logistical arrangements. He's supposed to be one of the world's top property lawyers IIRC, so it was only natural that City made a beeline straight for him. It's just mightily convenient that he works out so well for NYCFC.

Besides, I thought that the whole reason we signed the deal with the Yankees was that they were supposed to use their contacts to sort out the stadium planning for us?

Edelmann came on board as he worked for Mubadala handling real estate deals on their behalf, in NY in particular.
He´s really overqualified for handling the Etihad campus deals I think.

As for Yankees they got political clout yes, in Bronx in particular but still they had to went thru almost 20 planning applications before they could build their new stadium so it´s no picnic getting a stadium built.

It's just been announced on local TV over here that Orlando has been awarded the latest MLS franchise.

On the face of it, it doesn't seem the most obvious place for another professional football team, but considering the number of European tourists who visit Orlando every year, it makes perfect sense.

You can expect Atlanta and Miami to join soon..
