City Live

Whats funny now is that all clubs and fans of clubs who criticised this will be desparately scrambling to do do a poor imitation for next season.

My mates daughter just txt him, said picture of Mancini came on screen and the place erupted, if thats true how will Pellers feel?
It isn't true, there wasn't any picture or reference to him. Don't know why people need to lie

Yes there was when going through the managers. Each deservedly got a cheer as did Mancini. Doubt it would bother Pellers though he must know we still have a soft spot for Mancini because of what he did for us.
Happy to see that my mates daughter wasnt feeding her Dad bullshit, happy also that Mancini got a cheer for what he did for us, the past is the past though and we should all look forward to the future, and i was a staunch ''Mancini in''

Good then was it?

By all accounts it was a good night out, im just going off the general consensus that city are doing all these new things like city square etc and firstly it gets roundly ridiculed and then other clubs try and do a woeful imitation of it

The first ball of the season hasn’t even been kicked yet but City warmed up their fans in style last night – with a big bash for thousands of supporters.

Hordes of Blues packed into Manchester Central for City Live – the club’s first ever season launch party.

They cheered as new signings Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo, Fernandinho, and Stevan Jovetic were presented to the crowd – and Manuel Pellegrini also got in on the act, answering questions from fans live on stage.

Club officials broke the mould by having last season’s prize-giving at the start of the new campaign and Etihad Stadium favourite Pablo Zabaleta walked away with the coveted Player of the Year award.

The night started with clips of great City moments through the years, and a big roar erupted when a picture of former boss Roberto Mancini momentarily flashed up.

The staging was spectacular – with the star-studded action played out through big screens and booming speakers more reminiscent of a pop concert.

And the setting seemed fit for an energetic performance from critically-acclaimed young rocker Miles Kane, who headlined the show, which was presented by BT Sport anchor Jake Humphrey.

He told the audience that the night was for the fans, with the club keen to give something back and allow them to get closer to their heroes.

Terrace chants echoed around the auditorium with Shaun Goater getting roars from the faithful after he admitted the current squad was ‘quality’ and revealed his admiration for Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure.

He wrapped up his on-stage chat by saying: “I feel we have a really good chance of winning the league, it’s just real quality.”

There were poignant moments during the night too with tributes to legend Bert Trautmann, who died last month. Video clips were played of his heroics and an award was dedicated in his honour.

Bert’s son Stephen took to the stage and said how his dad would have loved the event, describing him as an ‘outstanding man’.

Fittingly the first Bert Trautmann Award, which will become an annual fixture, was presented to Bert posthumously – and handed to son Stephen – by ex-goalie Alex Williams.

Yaya Toure told fans he was really happy at the club but said he was disappointed with last season’s performance.

He said: “We have a new manager doing a great job. We will try to achieve some trophies. The manager is nice. He’s unbelievable. He’s doing an amazing job.”

Aguero briefly took to the stage to speak in English to the audience, saying “my English is okay, it’s okay!”

When asked if he had a message for the fans he simply said: “Thank you.”

City fan and Stockport comedian Jason Manford also entertained the audience with a 30-minute stand-up comedy set.

The event was certainly unique and City fans will be hoping the on-field action lives up to the off-the-pitch hype, starting with their first Premier League game against Newcastle on August 19.

Roll of honour:
* Bert Trautmann Award: Bert Trautmann (posthumous), presented by Alex Williams

* Player Performance Index Player of the Year: Yaya Toure, presented by fan Jess Lee

* Young Player of the Year: Matija Nastasic, presented by fan Matt Astbury

* Goal of the Season: Sergio Aguero vs Liverpool, presented by fan Lisa Mealing and Ed Hall

* Etihad Player of the Year: Pablo Zabaleta, presented by Etihad’s Clive Wratten and City supporters’ club’s Kevin Parker

* Academy Player of the Year: Marcos Lopes, presented by Patrick Vieira

Anyone else had the survey from City about why they didn't attend? Sounds like a good night out, although not sure I'll be tempted to attend next year

I enjoyed the montage of big moments over the years, cup finals and old managers. manford was very good, it was great to be there and great to be a blue. seeing all the lads on stage makes me want the season to arrive asap. was feeling so so about football right up until last night. so glad I went, I so nearly ducked it.
