City owner and council to build 6,000 new homes in £1bn deal

Re: City owner and council to build 6,000 new homes in £1bn

Looks to be a huge boost for East Manchester and a great investment for ADIG but how does it benefit MCFC?

We are forcing the residents to buy city wallpaper and lampshades

The benefit to City would be thousands of extra people living in the area, ready to spend their money at the campus and stadium.

Manchester Dan has dropped the bomb...
At the time of me writing this there has not been a single response to it on Red Cafe,
I guess there is not a lot they can say?
It'll take them time to dig up some negatives from that story, although be assured they will.

It had to happen eventually.

Fair point about the security aspect for Sheik M., must admit I had not considered that.

I'm sure he has now become passionate about the Team he now owns and revels in its success but I doubt he was a City fan before the purchase.,
Didn't go to York away then?

This bloke is a clown - firstly, it's not DUBAI but ABU DHABI and secondly, it wouldn't be a bad thing if the area did become an ' Abu Dhabi ' ghetto; this is the richest City.......in THE WORLD. An Abu Dhabi Ghetto - if it existed - would be worth more than most cities best areas.......

Don't want to sound elitist but some on here who live or have been to AUH will agree.........

Re: City owner and council to build 6,000 new homes in £1bn

I've read a fair few less than enthusiastic responses to this story to be fair.
Disgruntled United fans or holier than thou grumps (the UAE human rights issues) ...not too sure.

There's very little info out there at the moment following yesterdays announcements (and it seems a lot goes on behind closed doors)...nothing after the press release. I'd say it's currently the only hope of getting many of those stalled schemes off the ground (Holt Town and New Islington/Ancoats). Just hope the project is well thought out...no temporary looking housing schemes of which there are a lot about.

Given the planning from the Campus to the expansion I'd hazard a guess it's in safe hands.

the only thing i have with this is that I hope that the working class people who actually live in the area can afford the houses. and its not just ridiculously high prices that are than bought by rich middle class people. They need to be affordable

is it social housing being built ???

How many people actually live in that area now? Last time I got a taxi to the Etihad from Piccadilly station it went via the back route through that area north of Ashton New Road and it seemed to be mainly derelict brownfield land and some small industrial units.

I dont know exactly, but there are quite a lot of houses in around the area with people in them, I just want them not to be pushed out ( like at anfield) keep the houses affordable as most of the people living in east manchester are working class people.
