City players overrated by City fans?

Dunne.

As for underrated, Distin and Barry share that title quite easily.

Going back there are too many to name.

De Jong stands out to me as the most over rated considering we constantly hear he's the best DM in the world despite not even being the best in our squad.

David Silva...............

Wait for it......

For me the most garbage overrated players that many lauded were:

Tony Coton..Never produced a great save from a great shot.

Sylin Distin..Unforgivable nonchalant attitude, untidly wearing his shirt outside his shorts and utter contempt for his non urgency in injury time away at Groclin, in Poznan 2003..and oh yeh, that joke like defending away at fulham after falling on his arse and gifting them the first goal (good goal away at villa though !!)

Stephen Ireland...Awful, truly awful player. There were too many plastic paddies out there who wouldn't accept this guys poor quality of passing, inability in tracking back and not linking play between defence and attack. Utter rubbish.

I thought that was bollocks at first and then I read it back.

Great post and I have to say there's a little bit of truth in all of those.

Err.. He was our player of the year in 2008-09 and got in to the prem best XI

From the list of all time greats would it be sacrillege to suggest Francis Lee might have been overrated? I've seen Tev mentioned a few times and if you examine the impressive goalscoring records both knocked in a fair few penalties and missed a fair few sitters as well.

Very good. Sit back in your chair while I plug it in.

as to be a wind up,i will chuck one in that everyone will disagree with,David White, half the time when he went on his runs he forgot to the the fckin ball with him,as for his England debut that was plain embarrassing

Shaun Wright-Phillips for me. He had his big transfer to Chelsea and didn't force his way in to their team and now looks surplus to requirements at City because there's great players starting ahead of him. He's a joy to watch when he's running with the ball and he scored some brilliant goals in a Blue shirt - but he's not the sublimely talented player many would make you believe. Just good.

Stephen Ireland.

The way he let Paul Scholes waltz past him and score the winner at COMS a couple of years ago was a disgrace.

How does that make Ireland overrated? He had one outstanding season over three frustrating ones and his whole City career was dogged with his profound stupidity.

Much as you are entitled to hold your opinion mate,I am equally free to give my opinion that you are talking utter nonsense.
The man was gifted.
I am half expecting someone to suggest Colin Bell next, upon which I shall log off and self-harm.

I'm of two minds about Kinky - he was undoubtedly the most skilfully gifted player we had for many years, probably until Ali B came. What Ali B showed me though was supreme technical ability with a consistant end product whereas Kinky flattered to deceive at times. He would beat 5 men and then not produce the killer pass or finish.

This, in part, was down to our side being garbage at the time, but was also down to the fact that he couldn't finish well and his passing wasn't the best. So in that regard, he was overrated by us.

However, his ability to take players on and galvanise us fans was second to none and god only knows how bad we would have been without him!

He's a poor mans Silva really, which is juxtapositionally a complement and a criticism. Love to watch him play, but not a world beater.
