My latest research has been published and, for a limited time, is free to download at the moment. Give it a read when you get chance - <a class="postlink" href="http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/14660970.2014.961378?mobileUi=0#.VDAbF2K9KK3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1 ... DAbF2K9KK3</a>

The paper carries loads of stuff that may be of interest, so please give it a scan all the way through. It includes lots of snippets within it such as evidence that City had female season ticket holders in early 1900s (yet people claim women didn't go to games); evidence that City NOT United established Manchester as a footballing city; ticket price details compared with other costs showing that some of City's tickets for a single game were as expensive as a week's rent for a house in Gorton and much more.

This is all part of my ongoing research into Manchester's football birth and more will follow. In the meantime it would really help me if you could take a few minutes to download the paper while it's free - <a class="postlink" href="http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/14660970.2014.961378?mobileUi=0#.VDAbF2K9KK3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1 ... The price comparison to wages sums up where we are today with average workers struggling to afford to spectate.

Just to steal Gary's thunder and save most searching the document, it would appear that an adult in the early part of last century who worked in the lowest paid jobs available would only need to spend between 3-6% of their weekly wage to get a match ticket.

Fast forward to a young person on minimum wage today and we now see that cost increase as much as tenfold to around 30%.

Thanks for the comments so far. There's lots of snippets in the paper that would be of interest to City fans/Mancunians and, if you're interested in stressing City's significance then clearly this paper adds something. The paper won't be free for ever, so best to get it read asap because the normal charges for academic journals/articles are expensive.

I make no money out of this and I'm self funded in my research, but I'm keen that this research gets out there. My mission is to ensure Manchester's football story is told correctly and not based on myth. There are copyright issues so it can't be cut and pasted, but it really helps if you can spread the link to it and download it.

In terms of books.... I'll have something to announce in 2015 but for now my effort is going into research as I'm working towards a PhD on Manchester's football heritage. It's tough at times but heading towards the final few months now.

Here's the paper again: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/14660970.2014.961378#.VDAcxSldWxo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1 ... DAcxSldWxo</a>

Don't forget there's an earlier paper of mine which is now also free to download: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/17460263.2013.873075?src=recsys" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1 ... src=recsys</a> That's on the period before City & Utd came to prominence.

Thanks again.

An excellent read and clearly something of a labour of love for its authors.
If anybody out there hasn't alrady taken the opportunity to download this paper, I'd urge you to do so, now.

Good luck with the PhD, Gary. I'm sure you'll do well. Rarely could any academic recognition be more appositely awarded.

Thanks for the comments. The Sunday Mirror have a story about my paper which I think most City fans will like - <a class="postlink" href="http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/manchester-city-were-responsible-citys-4377088" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... ys-4377088</a>. This is only one small part of the paper though so still bedt to download my full paper for free while you can. Cheers
