City Signed Georgi Kinkladze July 15th 1995

Would Kinkladze have signed if former World Cup winner Alan Ball had not been the manager?

Course he would have. At the time it was a tremendous step for him as a player and incredible fee for his club. I very muvh doubt he had a clue who Alan Ball was.

Legend, still the most exciting player I have ever seen, bums off seats as soon as the ball landed at his feet
So you have not watched yaya ,silva,KDB,Sergio and a few more
Kinky was a good player but he became a liability towards the end (port vale away shocker and overweight)

Not the same. none of the world class stars you've named, left a wake of players on their arses like Gio did. Maybe once a season, but Gio did it every game. Not always with an end result, usually because who he passed to was crap. I'd have all those in my team before Gio all day, but get me off my seat as often, no they didn't.

Saw his first game, at home to Tottenham. Early on Kinkladze floated a beauty of a pass, breathtaking it was, from the half way line, about 30 yards to where a City player would have been in on goal - if only anyone had had the vision he showed in making it. That was the story of his time with us. But he went missing too often and if he got clogged after five minutes of a game he did nowt for the rest of it.
Uwe Rosler scored for City against Spurs that day and if I had to choose between the two of them I'd pick Uwe every time.

Yes a great day that and I posted about it in the opening day thread. Always remember him dropping a shoulder and a Spurs defender going completely the wrong way. Got a ooooh from the Kippax, with everyone thinking we have someone a little bit special here.

Great post. I have a video somewhere and some of the stuff Kinkladze did, I can only think of a Messi or Ronaldinho who could match those moments. Absolutely enthralling player to watch.

*awaits someone to misread the post, like in every Kinkladze thread, and post to tell me im deluded and Messi and Ronaldinho were miles better.

Sorry mate
If David silva did not you must have been super glued down
Breathtaking skill at the highest level World class

Ha ha if you genuinely think any of them players got you off your seat like Kinkladze then fair play

So you think Silva was better than Kinkladze at dribbling and going past players ?

I think its how people define exciting. There are 2 schools here. One is the Sergio, KDB, Yaya, King Colin etc. The other is the Gazza, Frank Worthington, Rodney Marsh brand. We all agree the first players get in your team every week and win you trophies. The others get you off your seats. ( And David is the best player IMO iv'e ever seen, and ive been going since 73/74.) But Gio got me off my seat.
