City stranded in Milan (fans)

I am currently sat in a hotel in Milan, I have no passport. Booked on flight tommorow at 1930 hopefully they will let me on with my driving licence if not it is the embassy on Monday. I think I will go for a mooch about town and hopefully watch the Milan game.

We went by train from Manchester 7.00am wed thro London Eurostar Paris then Paris to Turino.
All went well except owing to ongoind dispute between French and Italian rail we had to get off at the border and the last bit was done by a fleet of buses to Turin Station. We arrived at our hotel at about 9.00 pm.
We then had full day Thursday super City Turin and then the worst bit was at the match as we coul hardly see the match where we were all penned. It was a disgrace the way we were locked in afterwards then the crush going through small gate.
We left Friday morning again by bus from Turin to border [this should have been rail]
Great drive thro blizzard inAlps and noticed no vehicles coming the other way as roads closed with lots vehicles piled up waiting at side of the road. Our buses got through superbly but we were late leaving the border waiting for Milan passengers. We then missed all our connections home but these were all rescheduled as we went along. We were given a food hamper for delay and got back to London at 9.00pm. We had missed our Manchester train but this was changed leaving first class home at 9.40. we got back to Piccadilly at 00.15 waited an hour for a taxi and finally got home at about 2.00am.
We didnt see any City fans on this easy and fantastic trip and the delays and bus changes just added to the trip. Cost was about £250 each plus hotel at 120 euros for the 2 nights. Amazed so many flew when this was an option. We did same to Schalke but there were a few fans on that rail trip

Sounds good, as a matter of interest how did you book it ? I wanted to try that (though in the end I couldn't afford it anyway), but couldn't find a way to book it.

Was that booked through Rail Europe? I considered the train option as well but thought it may have been too expensive but when I add in the cost of bus and train connections from Milan airport to Turin the difference probably wasn't that great.

Who thinks brenda should get banned for gloating about having the ONLY smooth trip?! :o)

I've never heard so many nightmare stories, some are still trapped in Italy I think. We deserve extra loyalty points for it...even the bloody players!

And the saga goes on, my van's packed in completely. Spent most the day trying to figure out what's up with it, no joy yet :o(

Are there smoking areas on the trains in Europe?
I like the idea of going to an away game like this, but I struggle enough getting through 90 minutes of a game and half-time without a tab, or even the 35 minute flight from Belfast to Speke without one so a journey like that could be very problematic. (though being able to get up and go for a dander along the choo choo would be better than being cramped up on a seat for the entire time (and does that cost include a sleeping cabin?)

Yes Rail Europe. Manchester-London on Virgin site No smoking on trains but allowed on platforms so some got off when train stopped for quick puff

You dont sleep on trains! left Manchester at 7.00am and all daytime travelling thro tunnel to Paris thro London
Man- London 1hr 50 mins
London-Paris 2hrs
Paris-Turin 5hrs 20mins ARRIVED TURIN 9.00pm
Trolley service on all trains with bars etc comfortable seating and got cheap Virgin first class offer on way home. Had delays home but all added to trip and kept moving even if a bit slower. Better than being stuck at foreign airport and surprised so few try to do it

Been back for a few hours now. Ended up at stansted with wearethesouthstand. Got a hire car left it at Liverpool. Just got to hope i can get my extra money back.
