Some of us were pretty naffed off that night at the Metalist Stadium when the players made a reluctant effort to acknowledge us. Vinnie wouldn’t have allowed them to get away with it. For me, that attitude is totally unacceptable, no matter where we travel to: Those of us at the game in Monaco will recall that they scarpered en-masse down the tunnel after we got knocked out. Win, lose or draw we support them. Without us fans there wouldn’t be any point in them turning up at all and the Chairman is astute enough to get that. This is a nice gesture so let’s make sure we enjoy ourselves! Considering we’re being invited in to the Platinum boxes in the Colin Bell stand, I reckon this gesture is Khaldoon’s idea and I hope there may be a couple of nice surprises thrown in on the night. It’ll make some amends for the seven hour train journey from Kharkhiv back to Kiev with a strange man for company in my couchette compartment and a stale bread roll for tea ...... but I’d do it all again next season if I have to! I’m chuffed Fern signed mine, because of the Shakhtar connection.
