City: the Current Premier League Table

This year will be top for the neutral. As a blue, fuck!

I've already taken plenty of brickbats for saying the other day that trophies don't come before everything else for me. We have to do things in the right way including the way in which we play. Wenger's a testament to the fact you can play in the right way in the PL and still win trophies.

Early season league tables often have a distorted look, by Christmas the wheat will have been sorted from the chaff. I fully expect us to be sat top of the table by then.

If we don't win two of the next three aways I'd worry that puts us in the chaff.

I'm a bit concerned about the next few games. Other teams have a much easier run than us and, given our away form (and general record against Everton) I think we might struggle to stay in touch at the top.

I think we need 9 points to stay in touch and I'm very doubtful we'll get them. Hopefully Pellegrini has a plan to deal firstly with Barkley and Lukaku and then with our away form.
I hate this feeling that we aren't garanteed pionts anymore even against west ham, what needs to happen for our players to realise that every match is important. atleast we'll easily beat chelsea.

We didn't win at West Ham last year either iirc. I imagine we will beat Chelsea, we've got a great record against them in recent years.

Quite a few living in a fools paradise, City fans included.

Liverpool, Everton, Southampton and Spurs will not finish in the top four.

So take them out of the current equation. Both Merseyslide teams have had favourable fixtures so far.

The same goes for Arsenal. They won't be top two and the reality is it will be City, Chelsea and United once again at the business end of things.

Look how difficult it was for City to attain the type of experience required to sustain a successful title push.

It required knocking on the door of Champions League football for a couple of seasons, winning an FA Cup, finishing fourth, then third, winning it, runners-up, thereafter.

None of the clubs above us, outside Chelsea and United, can call upon the right ingredients.

This title will be won with 80 points and supremely confident we will hit full stride by January.

Possibly not the greatest example to choose, as he hasn't won a trophy since 2005. And that trophy came from one of the most negative FA Cup Final performances on record.

I take the point, and having watched Mourinho rack up the trophies playing very dull football with very good footballers, I definitely appreciate that our manager likes to play good football. But idealism has its limits and I hope for our sake that Mr Pellegrini has something of a pragmatic streak when push comes to shove.

Wenger's blind spot has been recruitment for far too long. Take a coach like him with a squad like ours and the world's your oyster.

The problem is while we wait for our squad to gel (btw I think main prob is squad attitude rather than gelling) we losing games we should be winning or even drawing, thinking that somehow arsenal nd liverpool r gonna lose points so we dnt hv to worry about ourselves is stupid, things can change chelsea man united nd us aren't garanteed top 3 anymore the quicker we realise that the more we'll take our matches more seriously.

Agreed but you have to wonder if Villa will be a one off.

Do our players have the mettle to climb the mountain more than once or is that enough given the 44 year gap.

The table doesn't tell the whole story though does it. Arsenal have started well but, Tottenham aside, they haven't been tested yet. Chelsea have got draws at Spurs and United - decent results - and ok they lost at Everton, but that's always a tricky fixture (we should know!) They will be the team to beat. People are poking fun at the rags, but losing at Anfield and the Etihad is no disgrace - neither is drawing at home to Chelsea. The only really bad result was against West Brom. As for us we have dropped eight points against teams we should be beating. Eight points that won't come back.

Anyone taking the table seriously after 6 games needs to give their head a wobble.

The top 3 will almost certainly be us, Chelsea and United. Before the season started I’d have had Spurs for 4th but with Ozil I fancy Arsenal to pip them. Neither have enough depth up front though, I like Soldado but if he gets injured or loses form Spurs are in trouble and despite Giroud’s good start to the season he’s not a top class forward, and again, they have little cover. I can’t see Liverpool maintaining a serious push for the title although they may be in the mix for top 4.
