City to expand Etihad to 62,000?

The thing that get's me is this.

United get 76,000 every home match. There ground is hemmed in. They have to walk a distance to the Metrolink stop. The roads are gridlocked around Old Trafford after the match. But the funny thing is, you never hear United fans complaining about getting away from OT. Especially the Cockney's, etc. Why are we different?

A walk into town. Buses outside the stadium. Better road network. Metrolink part of the campus. Onsite car parking. United fans would love our setup.
No they wouldn't they'd go effing ballistic with the crap standard of service on the metro. They have stations on two lines - soon to be three. All with more frequent sevices than we have.

But they also have 22,000 more fans. Hence why they probably get more services.

And they don't have a tram stop adjacent to the stadium.

Old Trafford Cricket ground and Anchorage Quay are the nearest. Both are a good 10 minute walk away.

I've been to United on the Cheadle coach on numerous occasions.

It takes nearly an hour after the game to reach the M60 through Trafford Park. The whole place is gridlocked.

We have another tram stop at the bottom of Alan Turing Way, but the trams are already full. There is also a tram stop across the road from the CFA entrance as well. So we have 3 tram stops.

We also have buses parked outside the South Stand that leave straightaway when full. Just not enough of them.

And a quiet walk along the canal into town. ;-)

A few ideas for when City finally develop the campus and Collar site. Because it will be absolutely rammed in the future.

Part of the plans.

1. A mini bus station. With a fleet of MCFC bendy buses.(10?) Each bus can hold up to 150 people. Double that of a double decker. Matchday only bus and Taxi lanes.

2. Metrolink track sidings, that can accommodate 5 double or treble carriage trams. Ready to go at the end of the match.

3. A Taxi rank. With a club and fan agreed set charge to Piccadilly Station. Any Taxi wanting to use the rank must not charge fans anymore. Coming or going.

4. A bit pie in the sky, but not impossible for ADUG and MCC. When HS2 arrives, a City monorail connecting the Etihad Campus to the brand new HS2 Station, and the redeveloped Piccadilly Station. Think it's a couple of miles. A monorail would take minutes. It would ease the Metrolink burden as well.

Sydney.

5. Multi-storey car parks, with matchday priority for vehicles. Vehicle registration recognition cameras, so need need to show your car park season ticket at the barrier. Better traffic light sequences. Etc.

There are a whole raft of transport proposals that could be part of the Etihad Campus, making getting to and from the ground and Campus much easier.
There is already a siding that can hold 4+ double tram units. No effing point mind as there is never more than 1 tram in it at the end of a match.

I'd fucking dream of a 10 minute walk to stand a good chance of catching a tram. The Metro services at the Etihad Campus are strictly toytown.
Majorly under specified power supply issue on the track between Piccadilly and the Etihad so Im told.

As I don't catch the tram on a regular basis, I wouldn't know. Saying that, I've only ever used Metrolink a couple of times to the Etihad and I've never noticed any sidings close to the Etihad tram stop, only platforms and a tunnel.

Try the CFA stop. You'll probably get a seat before it reaches the Etihad stop. :-)

The buses are OK, but it's every Man for himself trying to get on.

If it's that late they won't be able to use it until the next season, PL rules say that you can't use two home stadia in the same season.
But this is the darling spuds - the fa will roll over for them - you see...

The WALK to town is easy. Head to the Ashton tram stop at City Sq and you will see the start of the designated walking route back to town. It runs adjacent to the tram until Holt Town where you cross the track and head up Gt Ancoats St. You're in town in 25 minutes. By the time you've arsed about waiting for a team stood around like a lemon then got on a tram and travelled to town, the chances are you're already in town by walking. You've actually done yourself a favour, got off your arse and not been a lazy bastard!
