Getting to and from the stadium is a massive chore and I live local. I commend all those blues that put in some serious mileage following our team home and away. The transport system will seriously need addressing with any expansion. I got off the tram at The Etihad coming from town for the Huddersfield game. On the other track there were 3 trams back to back going to town. Great- if it was after the match. Why can't the trams be there ready to go and get people away. Queue, stampede, queue , stampede then get shoehorned in. It's shite now and that's before an extra 5-7000 fans.
An earlier poster had a good idea, a spur off the current Metrolink where it turns off Ashton Road to go past the stadium and under Alan Turing Way.
This track could be single width, going straight up the centre of Ashton road, and rejoini the existing line as it crosses Ashton Road at the side of the Academy.
This spur could hold numerous trams (at least 10 by my reckoning) ready for the final whistle, and could send the fans in both ways, down to Manchester or up to Ashton and the Ashton Moss park and ride.
Add this to the adaptions to the local rail network to serve the ground better, improvements to the Metrolink with an inner ringroad track running along Alan Turing Way between Hyde Road & the Central Park on Oldham Road, and the canal being utilized too (plus a high speed monorail, ok thats me dreaming, haha)
Plus with the attractions of the Collar Site meaning loads of people will not leave immediately after the final whistle,
That last point maybe the most important one, the sooner the Collar Site gets developed the better, this will reduce the issues required to leave the area within as short a time as possible,
