City to expand Etihad to 62,000?

What you've got to consider with the waiting list is that majority off the 6000 make most matches anyway. Also just because there on the waiting list doesn't mean there going to go through with it. Add 6000 to the number of season tickets we have already probably puts us up to around 44000. When you look at it like that it makes more sense to build one end first, then if sales go well for a season, then build the other end.

Put like that makes perfect sense, but to be fair it was the club that put the posiblity to doing both together in our heads.
I don't recall them ever saying they'd do both ends at once, just that they would do both ends if demand was there, it obviously was, or they wouldn't have applied for planning permission for both.

The club has said many times both end can be done together.

Disappointed we're just doing the South Stand.
Did you really think they would have 2 massive building sites going on at the same time ? Buggering about with access at both ends of the stadium ? That was never going to happen. The disruption would have been enormous, probably restricting access into the stadium at both ends.

They have planning permission for both ends, so they'll build both, get the south stand cleared up, then build the north stand as soon as they have finished. Planning permission will have time constraints, so if they leave it a long time they would probably have to re-apply.

Have a bit of patience.
The statement says "the opportunity also exists to expand the North Stand...". There's no commitment to do that.

No - the cost of putting in the planning permission with all the reports must run well into six figures, so you wouldn't want two separate applications. You apply for the whole thing (south stand, north stand, extra Gene Kelly seats) but once you've made a start you've got no time limit on when you complete. There may be enforcement options if someone leaves a building half-finished but the consent clearly allows for the work to be phased, with no commitment on when the phases must be completed - just start on something within three years. Remarkably the only objection seems to have been from the Friends of Philips Park Cemetery because of litter and (allegedly) fans using gravestones as a urinal.

Apparently there are no plans for additional car parking, so I imagine metro link will have to get their act together and put on more trams.

Fair enough, so we only need to start on one end now they have permission, and they can do the other end any time they want ?

Makes perfect sense from a build point of view to phase the work.

They have 15 months of construction work of which 9 of those the stadium is live ( excluding concerts ).

As others have pointed out the north stand expansion will effect City square and the shop .

No brainier for me.

City have not announced a phased expansion. That may yet happen, but we have not committed to do that.
