City to expand Etihad to 62,000?

Sooner or later the shit banks and shit self serving governments will pass and average people might have some more disposable income. Wait for a sort of slo-mo explosion in demand. It'll be regularly 60k+ and the planning enquiry will be in for the two sides, all before the end of the decade, imo

Wonder what the makeup(numbers/%) of the waiting list is?

New and current season ticket holders wanting the new cheaper season tickets.

Disappointed we're just doing the South Stand.
Did you really think they would have 2 massive building sites going on at the same time ? Buggering about with access at both ends of the stadium ? That was never going to happen. The disruption would have been enormous, probably restricting access into the stadium at both ends.

They have planning permission for both ends, so they'll build both, get the south stand cleared up, then build the north stand as soon as they have finished. Planning permission will have time constraints, so if they leave it a long time they would probably have to re-apply.

Have a bit of patience.
Exactly what I thought, it comes down entirely to logistics regarding stadium AND site access. I've no doubt they considered doing both at the same time but have come to the sensible conclusion that it would give too many headaches. Build the South Stand, relocate City Square and the shop(or is that located in the bottom of the South Stand, can't find the damn planning portal now) and then do the North Stand. The extra rows I think could be added at almost any time or maybe even scrap the idea.

Any idea on timescale for completion of the South Stand?

Of course the other reason it will for sure expand to 60k plus, is that it then becomes eligible to apply for the hosting of the Champions League Final.

Of course that would go down like a cold cup of vomit with UEFA and their FFP, especially if we subsequently made the final!

What't the old saying about revenge?

-- Sat Feb 15, 2014 10:05 am --

I'm pretty sure it'll be UEFA who'll be making the decision where to play the final, mate, so if they do choose the Etihad to host it I expect the cup of cold vomit won't be required

What you've got to consider with the waiting list is that majority off the 6000 make most matches anyway. Also just because there on the waiting list doesn't mean there going to go through with it. Add 6000 to the number of season tickets we have already probably puts us up to around 44000. When you look at it like that it makes more sense to build one end first, then if sales go well for a season, then build the other end.
Don't think they're waiting to see what sales are like, I think they're convinced (as am I) that we'll sell them regardless. It's purely for logistical purposes. Don't forget that it's not being done purely to get more fans in, the commercial and corporate side are just as important if not more so.

-- Sat Feb 15, 2014 10:08 am --

In time for tea? Given our owners i wouldn't entirely write off your chances.

I'm sure this has been asked and answered countless times, so apologies for asking again, but....

What is the timescale for this? When is work expected to start and finish on the South Stand redevelopment?

They've in effect already started by moving services around, I suspect the major work will start as the team bus is leaving after the last match.
I'm trying to find out how long it takes myself.

The south stand will be officially completed in time for the 15/16 season.

It will probably look close to being finished in the latter half of next season though. The new Kippax even looked near complete by March/April back in 95.
