Interesting to see that City would have won the league by 3 pts if only goals from open play counted.

Stretford Rangers really do rely on decisions going for them.

Wonder if the scum's -21 are all penalties ;-)

Although, it does go to show we need someone who can get a free kick in the bloody net occasionally

This proves two things for me.

1) Our set plays are/were dire.
I was sick of seeing corners float into the hands of the oppo's goalie this season.

2) We are/were too naive in conning the officials.

Goes to show that despite the amount of possession we had last year, we didn't score enough goals from open play. Either our strikers were wayward or the style of football didn't create enough chances.

It means fuck all at the end of the day. They have the Silverware....Move along, and strap yourself in.

It means fuck all in terms of achievement but it does say something about how ineffective we are in terms of corners and free kicks. These should be seen as opportunities to score or create chances. Despite having players like Kolorov and Tevez who are supposed to be good free kick takers we rarely take these chances. Same with corners - we have good headers of the ball such as Dzeko, Garcia, Lescott and Komps but how many of our corners turn into genuine goal scoring chances - not enough. I'm sure we must work on set pieces on training so I don't understand why it's not happening for us.

If we beat the first man with our corners it would help. Failing that lets stick a man on the front post to flick it on

I agree - United have RVP taking corners because they know that most of the time he will put the ball into a danger area. They're prepared to sacrifice their best forward player because they know he will put the ball in where the goal keeper will struggle to reach it (without commiting himself) and there's every chance that it will come off someones arse and go in. We need to rethink who takes corners and how we can start using some of our height advantage to start scoring from them

We need to employ Tony Pulis and/or Martin O'Neill or even John Beck to give us some better ideas.
