City v Arsenal friendly post match thread

That was a bit shit.

Plenty of possession but like last season - toothless.

Playing a higher defensive line against teams like Arsenal will cause us untold grief this season - especially if the defensive midfield don't close down the opposition quickly enough in front of the defensive line. Yaya was mostly at fault in this respect but Fernandiniho wasn't great either.

As to the teams attacking play we looked unbalanced with far too much going down the right. And upfront Negredo misses far too many opportunities. He scored 1 from 6 today and was similarly wasteful against Byern and Sunderland. He needs to score 1 in 3 to be a good striker.

Early days but its not looking good.

Celtic 1-0 v Liverpool. Wonder if RAWK will meltdown like here. Jesus Christ, some people here I worry about. Take their laces off them ffs.

Gelling starters has been worthwhile but been our problem. That's what I put our disjointed effort today down to. Arsenal used a squad that they've had together, no new players to blood in like we have. Chill out and take it easy, a CB is needed but we knew that already and it's expected following Kolo's departure, I actually rue us selling him as his pace would have been to Pellegrini's likikg.
This place is worse than RAWK at times.

International break is my main concern now as the players won't be all together until Thursday.

What plank decided that a friendly should be played a few days before the season starts, in the final week of preparation which many believe could be the most important in finally trying to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together?

Silva, Navas and Negredo are off to Ecuador... they won't be back training until Friday, maybe Saturday.

Ridiculous.

And what did that win us again?
Second in the league actually but then again you may be spoilt.

Brilliant! I'd happily have the best defense in the world then if it means us winning second place but then again I'm spoilt right?

Haha!
Even if we had the best team in the league which is quite possible it still doesn't mean we will automatically win it. This is football and luck plays a role as well.

Lescott is shocking. We definitely need another defender.
The thing is, Lescott is a cracking player. In our title winning season he was just as good as Kompany, last season even though he was in-and-out of the starting XI he did well when he came into the side. I have no worries that he will still be good when it counts this season too.

He isn't. He has been very good at times...in the title winning season as well. But Pellegrini is playing a higher line and Lescott is horribly slow, and even worse on the ball. His only strenght is his physicality. Nastasic is on a different level and we need another defender in similiar mould. Maybe more experienced.

Nastasic is a very good player but I wouldn't exactly accuse him of being fast either.

Joe Hart is a decent GK but is not one the best in the world.
Yeah, coz is easy winning the golden glove year after year after year

If he saved every shot this year he'd still be put down on here.

Can you honestly think of one team in the league who wouldn't swap for him in a hart beat (see what I did there, I'm dead good a punditry) ((see did it again))

He won't be winning it this season! Nothing to do with todays game but he isn't the best in the league let alone europe or the world. He's a very good GK who has been fortunate to have the best defence in the league in front of him for a few years.

He's not crap, I'm not putting him down but he is not world class IMHO.

Ps whats a lemin?
It's a piss poor way of spelling lemming, you know those crazy mad eds that blindly follow the 1st to jump off a cliff.
I completely agree about our defense, but last year was missing vinny for quiet a lot of it, an inexperienced nasty and he still won it.
He'll be my bet for golden glove again

Some of you posting (many with A LOT of posts) that we 'got battered' today, and will be 'lucky to get top 4' etc just need to get a grip for a second.
Pre season friendly?
I agree the sharpness wasn't there on the left side of the defence but FFS, rather they ship the goals now and are tighter for next week?
But the Rest of the game, we dominated - and the understanding is starting to show with the new players being integrated. And Dave Silva was sublime, Fernandinho and Negredo workhorses, and contributions from everyone else. Fitness first.
Anyone who thinks we won't turn up next Monday, is in for a shock.

The comments of concern are surely only
The same as the comments of praise when we beat Milan and played well against Bayern.

Weren't they only friendlies as well?

It works both ways.

Hopefully Pellegrini is good enough to sort things out, Aguero gets fit quickly and we buy a new CB this week.
