City v Arsenal Post Match

Need to take positives from this game, Vinny got his first game in a while under his belt as did Aguero. The result should focus their minds (like Bayern game) when we meet Chelsea too!

That's my thinking too. We've coped without Vinny and Aguero remarkably well, which shows our squad is more than capable of fighting for the title. This was one game too far. Too soon for Aguero and Vinny to play to their best abilities and without Yaya and Nasri we were just lacking too much quality. Start the FA Cup game with the same team to play at Chelsea - get some confidence and form back - get that gap down to 2pts and keep it down to that, then welcome Yaya back and get Bony in to kick us on to the title!

We played poorly and we got what we deserved on Sunday, with 66% possession we should have something to show for it. If we can put a performance in like Southampton away, on the 31st, the damage done against Arsenal will be rectified for me. We are more than capable of beating them in their own backyard and going in as under dogs in most peoples opinion will suit us.
A Still a long way to go yet and there will be a good few shocks and surprises to come, we can do it and I think we will do it, we will beat Chelsea and everything will be back on again. Stay on Chelsea's tail with a victory and get Bony and Yaya back and we can push on on and take the title again..! We have the best away record in the league so lets not forget that..!

That's right. I actually think that Nasri combined with Silva could well have unlocked that Arsenal defence. But I do think we have a double set-piece problem, and it's now becoming a concern. We're vulnerable to them when others are taking them, and we can't do anything with them when they're awarded in our favour (see especially the thousands of sterile corners that others have commented on). We've now put ourselves in a position where, really, we have to do something that nobody else has come close to this season. Win at the Bridge. Don't get me wrong: on our day, we can beat virtually anybody, anywhere. We'll see, two weeks from now. Meantime, the Middlesbrough game should not be used as anything other than an excuse to get our returning players fully match fit. It should be taken very seriously indeed.

By the way, can't be arsed reading through all 59 pages of this thread: but in case no one's said it — Clichy had a good match and was one of our best players, on the day. Good to see him having turned round the really poor form of the first two months.

On Sunday we lost at home to a club which has made a habit of throwing in the towel as soon as it's team coach drives through the stadium gates of a title contender's stadium. We never looked like scoring and could have shipped more than two. As a team we were grim. This, though, is City and there are too many ready to fall for the well worn myths that the title is already lost, that most of our players are simply not good enough to win the league, and that we didn't win it last year but rather that Liverpool and Chelsea (whose manager is actually an orchestrator of masterclasses and a "serial" winner of titles) threw it away.

This is the slough of despond that City fans take refuge in after a defeat, but it's negative and it's rubbish. City have actually been the most consistent team in the PL, not just over the last season but since August 2011. Our players have shown an ability to handle pressure greater than any others. What Sunday showed is not that City are weak and unreliable but that City are actually powerful and can be unstoppable. But only when we actually see City. Toure and Nasri are ver important. Dzeko is important when he is fit enough t put on the pitch. Aguero and Kompany are world class players when match fit: at 75% of match fitness they are of little value and can easily be a liability. Silva is incomparable - when he has players capable of taking advantage of his unique gifts. These are just some of the elements - in addition to the chronic poor form of some of the other players - absent from the display on Sunday.

If we assume they remain absent for the rest of the season, then it is safe to assume that City will not retain the title. But if there is one PL club which has shown on more than one occasion, the ability to recover from disappointment, it is City. The team does that, not by panicking about "the title" but by focusing on "the next match". This is a cup match against championship opposition. Hopefully our forwards will be fit enough for this and will be sharper for playing it. Then we have Chelsea, hopefully only without Toure and Nasri. A fully fit Kompany should make a big difference. After that it should be the full, real City reporting for duty and that is a fearsome prospect for the opposition.

Could you copy and paste this sensible post into all the other threads that have spiraled into despair since Sunday.
