City v Everton Post Match Thread

Contender for best performance of the season for me, that, given the standard and form of the opposition, who I thought would probably turn us over. Hats off to the players then and the manager. The rags were a pushover with plodders like Carrick and Hair Bear in the engine room, whereas Everton were far more mobile and tenacious, plus they had the animal that is Lukaku up top. After a shaky opening 10 minutes, I thought we played some excellent, inventive attacking football, with Silva involved in everything and Ya Ya immense. No duffers in sky blue at all in fact, with Ya Ya just shading the Beast and Lescott for MotM IMO. Keep playing like that and we'll have no problems. Big smiles all round!

I think if hart would be giving lescott a kick in the ass for the 1st goal. That's another opportunity for hart to keep another clean sheet !

Lukaku ran past lescott as if he wasn't their for the 1st goal !

One poor moment should not detract from an otherwise excellent display

Got to disagree, Lescott was awful in the first half.

Was rather surprised how Everton faded as a threat, as at half-time one couldn't have predicted such a toothless performance. For forty minutes it was an even contest with us just shading it, but after the interval we stamped our authority on the game and won comfortably by the end.

Careful, Gabe, I'm discussing currently with renegade Evertonian offspring that we got all the decisions today from that useless stinker with the whistle. Toffees will be thinking that there were half a dozen stamps on their lads that Moss the Toss missed!

We went to a five man midfield midway through the second half when aguero went off.

Yes that's true, I forgot that.

And they barely had a sniff of the ball when we did it.

That's what I noticed, earlier in the season a striker would come on for a striker but it looks like Pellegrini is learning, completely shut the game out when Nasri come on.

Fernandinho pissed on Yaya today,who often let play pass him by.Give Yaya space and time to dictate and he'll destroy any opposition,however,the dirty work doesn't come naturally.
Certainly no where close to motm.

I thought YaYa was anything but immense today, a few times when the ball was there to be won he sauntered in without much effort to try and win it. He's still the best in the business when he turns it on but today wasn't one of those days. In patches he showed what he can do but I thought he faded over the 90.
I also thought that Fernandinho had a mixed bag. Some quality sweeping up and getting his foot in followed by being brushed aside and losing the ball in a similar place that cost us on Wednesday. I think he'll get better as the weeks go by and him and YaYa develop some proper understanding.

Was a joy to have Merlin back in the side, an absolutely magnificent player. I have to question MP's quote about him only being capable of 20 on Weds when he played the full 90 today with no probs whatsoever. Good to see him getting proper stuck in as well, a fully deserved booking to boot!

Seriously - I think he is one of the main reasons the formation is struggling. He gets in good positions but is too lighweight. Thought McCarthy for Everton was much more effective in similar role. Give me NDJ or Barry any day of the week at this moment in time. He may adapt - hope he does.

I think he did a good job today. He's improving.

I don't like the two as a partnership,Yaya is better going forward and Fernandinho more effective at the defensive stuff,however,neither are specialist enough to compliment imo.
Its not so obvious against lesser opposition but against quality its very apparent.If they are to be deployed together against such teams then i want the security of a Milner or Rodwell in attendance.

I agree, thought he was pretty bad 1st half and played really well 2nd half.

Silva was MOTM for me, stands out a mile.

Disappointing that vinny's injured again, seems to be made out of glass at the moment.

Hooefully he's not out too long and Dimechelis is back soon, unfortunately I don't trust lescott for 90 minutes

When nasri came on for Aguero we looked a bit more comfortable on the ball. Maybe we use a formation like that from the start against Chelsea and WHU away ?

Well done to all today. Fantastic performance against a dangerous Everton team.We could easily have felt sorry for ourselves when the first goal went in but we knuckled down and to be honest battered them.

I knew we will win since I see they set up high defensive line. Last 2 seasons if I can recall correctly City never lost against high line. I cannot remember when the last time opponent in PL play with us this system because it was long time ago. Everton dare to do it and get punishment. The reason is simple. City has players who like to play against this. If there is enough space behind defensive line, Silva and Yaya are good at passing the ball between defenders and Kun has pace to touch and score. Ball will get through whole game. Today is easy game their manager set up wrongly at beginning.

Have finally put my finger on it, and it makes me uncomfortable.

Sure, Yaya's stamina has previously been called in to question.

But stupid as I sound, he is part of the problem.

We are a one man midfield with Fernandinho, who I thought was very good today.

Lazy rakish passing from Yaya, far too cool for school at times.

He is easily taken out of the equation when the passing is quick one-touch around him.

Everton did it to him a couple times and no surprise it becomes more pronounced against the likes of Bayern and Dortmund.

He was clearly tired from the other night, but there were a number of occasions when he failed or simply refused to close the distance between himself and numerous Negredo knock downs.

Love Yaya in full flow, his momentous goals, but he increasingly appears to be as much of the problem as the solution.

Great effort from City today. Real desire and some lovely interplay.

Silva and Negredo were fantastic and Kolarov continues to seize his chances.
