City v Ipswich 1981 FA Cup Semi

I think they just did in them days? If you thiNk back a lot of the finals had both teams in away kits if home kits clashed. West ham/arsenal, united/arsenal.
Back then there’d usually be a coin toss but both teams sometimes just agreed. I know there was a lot of talk about red/black being our lucky away kit that season - we should’ve worn it for the final!

6 years old stood on a box my dad has made for me so I could see at the back of the Holte End. I remember it being absolutely packed. Even as a 6 year old I knew my footie though and I knew Ipswich were a top side. Always liked Cooper and I remember being worried about the likes of Mariner and Brazil.
When Power scored I just remember the scenes all over the ground with fans on the pitch and how much it meant to fans to be there. You rarely see passion like that at the footie anymore sadly.
Always remember the picture posted on the front of the Evening News of all the scarves as the fans sang you’ll never walk alone.

I posted about that earlier. I was in the stand at the side and my most vivid memory was the whole end turned totally blue as everyone waved their scarves.

Was in Witton Road aged 15. Always remember City goal came in 100th minute. 100th FA Cup Final to follow and despite being best side in both finals managed to fuck it up. Also remember City massively outnumbering the Ipswich country bumpkins that day.
"Managed to fuck it up despite being the best side in both finals" sounds quite harsh at first....but yep, thinking back it was Typical City.
I was gutted.

On the subject of Big Alan was with him and the Denton branch at Villa Park when we won 5 -1 in the league, a night match. We got bogged down in The Witton pub and only got in when we were 4-0 up. Tydeswell on the way home was always the order of the day. CTID.

Tydeswell oh yes,Remember stopping there after losing 3-2 at Fulham
He was rather hammered

If Big Al was hammered it must have been a good piss up. Joking aside Al is a gent I'm lucky enough to have years of great memories of characters like him supporting God's own. That's why we are lucky being associated with a club like ours.

Totally hes s top guy and now hes back at City after being in Hospital so long

We played Birmingham a couple of weeks before & there was a rumour that Villa were selling neutral tickets after their reserve game, so a couple of us left St Andrews & got a taxi over to Villa Park only to find it locked up and deserted. Turns out there reserve game kicked of at noon!!!
Luckily a couple of mates drove to Villa Park in the week & picked up a few tickets in the Witton End. Of the game, I do remember Terry Butcher missing a header from what seemed to be right under our cross bar.
