City v Ipswich 1981 FA Cup Semi

Yes sir. Big Alan in charge.
On the subject of Big Alan was with him and the Denton branch at Villa Park when we won 5 -1 in the league, a night match. We got bogged down in The Witton pub and only got in when we were 4-0 up. Tydeswell on the way home was always the order of the day. CTID.

Shouldn't be underestimated what a great win this was for us, that Ipswich side and the ones around that time were superb, and imo not far off the great Forest and Liverpool sides people often talk about, was gutted when we drew them, actually couldn't believe it when we beat them.

Two things still remain clear as day in my mind with this, one, I'd listened to this despite going to every game during the cup run bar the 1-0 at Peterborough (Tommy Booth iirc), I was ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED our name was on the cup that season, and two, when we lost the replay I shrugged it off thinking it wouldn't be long before we'd be back, how wrong was I .

I think they just did in them days? If you thiNk back a lot of the finals had both teams in away kits if home kits clashed. West ham/arsenal, united/arsenal.
Probably a marketing ploy.

I too remember being in the Leppings Lane end watching us in the mid 80's. I remember it because the two centre pens were crammed full and you couldn't move. Both me and my brother asked a copper at the front of the stand can he open a gate and let us into the next pen because of the crush. We weren't weak and feeble as we were both in our mid 20's and fit, but the crush was getting unbearable and you simply couldn't watch the game. We had to force our elbows out in front of our chests to give us chance to breath. The coppers response was "Shut it or you're out". I hope he remembered saying that a few years later when the inevitable happened.
Was this in 1984 towards the end of the season?

In the middle of the Holt End that day, with my brother and my mates, we went mad when we scored, great memories, we went to every cup game that season,(by Football Special, including Everton) it was special to reach Wembley in those days, it still is for me.

It was Monday dads office all sat round a little radio The draw for the 1981 fa cup semi final anybody but ipswich we crossed everything that we would get Wolves or Spurs as Man city v Ipswich Town came out my dad came out with FUUUUUKIN HELL pardon my french!

6 years old stood on a box my dad has made for me so I could see at the back of the Holte End. I remember it being absolutely packed. Even as a 6 year old I knew my footie though and I knew Ipswich were a top side. Always liked Cooper and I remember being worried about the likes of Mariner and Brazil.
When Power scored I just remember the scenes all over the ground with fans on the pitch and how much it meant to fans to be there. You rarely see passion like that at the footie anymore sadly.
Always remember the picture posted on the front of the Evening News of all the scarves as the fans sang you’ll never walk alone.

I travelled to away games on Yelloways for a few seasons in the 80's... there were more than a few characters on those coaches !!!

Our paths have probably crossed, did plenty of trips on yelloways, as you say, plenty of characters.
