Thank you all for your welcome. I think i'm going to stay here a bit, at least i'll improve my English! I'd invite you on the forum of Napoli but i guess you won't understand a lot, it's in Italian (well, it's in our own dialect, to be honest!). I'm coming back as soon!

You won't, not with the standard of English typified on here :o)

Hi, i'm a Napoli's supporter. So forgive my English. First of all my compliments for the forum, you know, last year we met Liverpool and although i will always be thankful to them for beating Milan, i don't have beautiful memories of that team and their supporters. Indeed, City's been very different towards our supporters and even reading your comments i can see you're honest and balanced. In Italy Napoli is often hated (they probably just envy us) so it's very pleasing to me to find some place where at least there's no hate. We both played a great match, i think we did something more because it was in Manchester and our players are inferior to City's. I honestly think City's the best team of the group, it's amazing that you can put a player like Tevez as substitute. Bayern is strong, but the best City could win against the best Bayern. Yaya Toure was great yesterday, Silva played a good half game, and Aguero made us take several yellow cards! And Dzeko is fantastic. I couldn't hope for a better start for us, a great match against a great team. I wish you good luck for the Premier, we both love the same colour, it would be fine to see England painted blue!
Again, thank you for letting me be your guest, let's meet again on 22nd of November, i hopefully be there to support my team against yours!
You are welcome anytime

You guys have great fans

I'll be first one to say that Napoli's manager got the best of us, really.

Mancini failed to recognize that they've come prepared to defend that last pass around/in front of the box. I said it at the end of first half - we will not get through the middle.

So - what do we do in the 2nd? We keep trying to the middle, and keep failing.
After a while, you could just see that our players have no clue what to do with the ball offensively.

And it's not even only Mancini, I am shocked that players themselves, especially guys like Silva and Nasri do not see the cork in the middle of the field - but just keep pushing on and on...giving away countless possesions.

I mean - God forbid we string three, fuck TWO crosses in a row!!!

Furthermore - I cant remember the last time I saw a long ball played forwardby one of our players. Honestly.

Its like we think at this level any team will just let you pass around endlessly all the way the box and set up a perfect strike?? Barcelona cant even do that- and they are number 1 team in passing (probably in history).

FFS try to skip some pitch with a long ball every now and then, it cant be worse than tapping around the center.

Good post. I agree that Mancini is an 'ARRY on the night (redknapp) believing that top players will work it out themselves. Mancini was out-coached. The top of the box was congested on purpose as they have watched our first 4 games were a majority of our goals come from. No long balls to break up the defensive rhythm. Very few crosses on target, ie unpracticed with little support in the center when the opportunity did arise.

And turnovers mid-field. Devastating. Don't let any PL teams study this second half. They'll all work out how to break us down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time for Mancini to create some new set plays to give more options in attack.

One long ball, a beautiful on target blast from Kolarov to Dzeko right at kickoff.

.. and Yaya's chance did come from a charge up the center. Agreed that there was to much faith in Silva and Nasri to repeat what they did at White Hart Lane. It seemed something changed in the second half as the field did oen up and there was less congestion/more room to pass. Still, we looked stymied and out of sorts. But if we looked bad yesterday, we still played well and held to a draw, so when in form and confident we should be able to dominate them.

Yeah, let's hope no one studies the game.. but I can't see any English managers keeping 7 back in their box.

Just watched the game closely again. A few thoughts...

- This was one of those frustrating games (for us) where on so many occasions a Napoli player stuck a foot out to barely stop what would have been a great goalscoring chance.

- Whenever they ran at us, we had an alarming lack of numbers, occasionally 2 vs. 2 or 3 vs. 3. Really feel we missed De Jong as he would have been an extra man to cope with these and an extra man may have prevented their goal.

- Those saying Yaya was poor need to watch it again, he was excellent (besides a couple of shots going into row Z) and powerful in a midfield that often seemed undermanned in the second half.

- I think we can safely say playing on the left doesn't suit Nasri too well as he was largely disappointing. That said, his beautiful flick over a player and cross from the left led to the free kick that led to the goal so he he played a part.

- Nasri should have hacked down the player after Barry's stupid mistake that led to their counter and goal. He was in position to take the players legs out and would have got a card but backed out.

- Dzeko was impressive again, often keeping the ball with two or three around him. He just didn't have enough chances but probably should have scored his best chance when he turned in the box and shot it wide.

- Johnson looked better in his cameo than he has against some not-so-good Premier League teams. He set up Dzeko's great chance and had a positive impact on the game. Again, seems better as an impact sub than 90 minute player.

- Napoli's defending was frustratingly fantastic, they were tactically perfect and excellent on the counter. Cavani is a fantastic footballer and both Hamsik and Maggio played very well too, while Lavezzi was scary every time he had the ball. Bolton "reject" Dzemaili helped them start to dominate midfield a lot after he came on.

Great summation LC. Agree with all of it.

Me too, agree with that summary.
Good lesson for us too: how to cope with a fast breaking team that defends very very well.

re: Napoli fans: Thought their support was very good.
A police officer said to me after the match that the Napoli fans were going to be escorted down into the city centre but they had to wait because they were 'being nutters'!

Would be good if those who can only see in black & white could widen their horizons.
Tevez was NOT the reason we didn't win tonight - he was given about 10 mins to try and turn things around and that was hardly the determining factor!
I am a big Mancini fan but I thought Tevez should have been brought on a lot earlier

Could not agree more. No later than 65 mins. Tevez was brought on when all legs were dead already, it is a team game, that's why there were still another 1o players on the ground for City!!!!

-- Thu Sep 15, 2011 6:42 pm --

You raised some good points. The heavy defense and rush does not work over a season. They did however catch us on a day with less than a pacey defense. Not in Naples I bet. 0-3 in Naples :-)

A fair result and an encouraging one. cos Napoli are a good side and would be a top 4 team in the premiership.

Should've put them away in the 1st half, but for me we were very 'arsenalish' at times ie trying to literally walk the ball into the net. Silva and Nasri in particular were guilty of this. We had 24 shots and only 1 goal to show. We need to be clinical and cut throat to progress in the competition.

Kompany was superb (apart from the pass back fuck up at the end).

The kid Lavezzi is absolute mustard.

Hello guys!

I'm Marco, a mr. groucho's friend - he told me about your forum.
Allow me to congratulate you! We both had a good game and I guess we've felt the same emotions watching the match yesterday, because as you may know we haven't been playing in Europe since the Golden Days, when Maradona was our God :)

I hope we'll both move on the round of 16.
Good luck for your next match! :)
