City v Newcastle, Carling Cup - Post Match Thread

Well the only positive here is that if you dont win Capital Cup its better to be out as soon as you can be. It would have been worse if we are trough this round, ext roud and then lose in two semis to Pool or Spurs with playing 3-4 extra games for nothing.

As draw went can see Spurs, Soton, Chelsea, Pool all in the semis, and that will make them tired in a two legged semis around January.

But pretty sure a full EDS squad could have got a 0-2 results too and surely they would have learned something from a game like this unlike our first team.

I do think the side we put out must have learnt they need a long sharp rod up their rectum if they are to win games of football.

I hope also that given the pitiful effort to a man the players who did play put in they realise they are all replaceable.

We want players who put in full shift not those that go through the motions in the supposed knowledge that no matter what they do they are going to start on Sunday.

Cant sleep tonight.cant stop thinking what has happened to our team.We looked lost last night..A rudderless ship. This has to come from the manager. What are we doing to change this?

Tell you what if football ever caused me a moment of lost sleep I would give it up

obviously I'm the bigger blue then. :-)

Joke before you get all ban hammery!

We have gone form a pretty solid looking defence to a shambles in a matter of months.
Forget blaming FFP, The world cup, tiredness.
This is a so called squad of world beaters and in my honest opinion for a majority of them they are on easy street.
We are miles and miles from where we want to be. A win over united would be nice however I am more concerned the problem is deep rooted. Funny isn't it how things haven't been the same since cakegate.

This.

I think it was hard to believe what we were watching last night. My opinion was, and still is, that it doesn't actually matter who your manager is or what formation you play when every single one of your players is as woefully out of form as they all were last night, and many of them got worse as the night progressed. I can't blame Pellers for starting with Silva and Ya Ya last night, because it was a "must win" game, just as much as the derby on Sunday. At the opposite extreme we have those who argue that we should in fact be playing the likes of Guidetti and the other loanees plus some of the "kids" "in games like these" as though these would bring automatic victory where the "first team" failed. I point out that the EDS lost 6-2 "to an experienced Foxes side who pressed home their physical advantage" a few days ago. John Guidetti is scoring goals against Partick Thistle ( which Georgios Samaras didn't find difficult!) not Newcastle United. At the moment I can see nothing to do other than bite the bullet, wait for the players to return to form - and hope they do it by Sunday! This team can actually pass to each other, can show imagination and should not remain the shambles it was last night for long - hopefully not long enough for the season to be a write off.

Look at the bright side, all the good moments we've had since 2011 and we moan about going out in the carling cup. Just take a minute and think what it's like to be a Newcastle fan. Yes Theyve beat us tonight but they are in a miles worst situation than us. Roll on Sunday.
Very well said, mate.

We aren't moaning about going out.

We're moaning about the severe drop in standards and complete lack of professionalism over the first quarter of the season.

Stoke, west ham, cska, Newcastle.

All teams we should be blowing away with the players we've got.

We've had spells in the last few seasons (even 2011/12 in the run of games up to and including Arsenal away) where we had a bad run of games, played like shit & could barely get a win. In that season, we won at QPR around this time of year then only scraped a couple of unconvincing wins at Wigan & Villa on the road until the game at Norwich around Easter time. We've got half-a-dozen fairly tough games coming up; let's see where we are after those before we go all doom-and-gloom.

Your performance marks make us look good apart from Jimmy nobody should be over 5.

Great pics as usual.

Our tempo or lack of it and complacency last night just mirrors so many games this season. The other sides seem to be quicker, more energetic and far more focussed than we have been. We are so sloppy and it seems to be a repeat of 2012/2013, the transfer window was crap and there is an air of despondency around the place which we had that season. I am not going to write us off but the chances of up being potless must be strong, we must go hell for leather in every tournament we are in.
