City v Newcastle Pre Match Thread

True, but if Zabaleta has a good game, I don't see Sagna getting back in(in the league) and he's been our best defender this season.
Competition for places is good, it will make both players work harder to keep or regain their place in the team. Sagna has been brilliant but he is 30 and we could have to play up to 60 games this season. Both players will get plenty of game time. We are lucky that we have 2 equally top class options at RB to choose from.

I wouldn't have minded seeing Zaba at LB instead of Kolarov tbh, but maybe with Yaya missing it would have been a bit too much missing from an attacking standpoint to have not much from either fullback as well as CM

I might be remembering this wrong, but I think Zabba played a few times at LB in late 2011. Had a pretty good game against Arsenal I think. Might be worth looking at as an option going forward if needed.

Deffo okay with resting Sagna as the lad ran himself absolutely ragged midweek. Hate to see him dropped routinely though as we go forward. He has been fantastic this year.

I am happy with that line up. Zaba can cover that position but I wouldn't start him at left back.

If any of those teams were lucky enough to have Yaya, Sterling, De Bruyne, Hart, Sagna or Fernandinho on their roster I believe they would be in their first XI every week when available. As would Silva, Aguero and Kompany. So that's at least 9 players we have who would get into any of those sides.

Soccer Saturday is just rag/London propaganda for the clueless masses, most of whom read tabloids and think Paul Merson has a viable opinion.

FFS Americanisms like Roster have no place in football it is Sqaud or team!

Hadn't realised just how much of a bogey side we've been to them in the premier league

As shit as we we've been in the past I can't remember us having a record against anyone that bad

So when they sing, "Where was you when you were shit".
The answer is. Still watching us trounce you ;-)

That formation worked well for Newcastle against Chelsea but hopefully we'll be moving the ball a lot more quickly than Chelsea were able to. Also Colback was their best player and he's out

A lot of players back from injury- Bony, Iheanacho and Mangala. Mangala inclusion is a big plus as he has been fantastic, determined and a personality in that backline prior to the injury. Hopefully Kompany will be back soon. Sagna does not deserve to lose his place but he needs rest especially after the shift he put in against Monchengladbach. Fresh legs are needed against this Newcastle team that has confidence (justified or not) after the Chelsea game and Zabaleta is a ready made replacement and he will be ready and fired up to get his season going.

Yaya injured but it is a matter of wear and tear and his appearances in the team will diminish naturally but he remains and will be a key asset this season. Fernando and Fernandinho has been great so far and they form a good midfield pair. The front four is where most of the intrigue lies- Silva will be sharper than he was midweek and I want to see more coordination in their play. They are an obvious threat. Aguero remains the main weapon and this can be the game where he starts firing, he has a good record against Newcastle (Aguero seems to have a good record against every team lol).

A 2 week break after this match and so the players will want to go to international with a win. They grafted well midweek and that momentum and attitude should be carried into the match and with the quality of the team, we will get the three points.

Hate all the - poor record against city - crap because just like last week with Kane, we have a horrible habit of breaking these cycles.
