City V Southampton post match discussion

Re: Arrogance

Hardly arrogance to think we'd win by 3,4 or 5 goals today.

Exactly. We scored 3, missed a penalty, hit the bar, missed 3 sitters and had other numerous half chances; it could have quite easily been 5.

I suppose it's a 'glass half empty/half full' thing.

Obviously most points have been covered about who played well and who didn't.

The one thing that stood out for me, in how poor we played, was the surprise in going for the 4-4-2 formation.

To play a complete pre-season of 3-4-1-2 and then suddenly expect the players to be comfortable with the old formation was strange and consequently part, imo, of why we played so badly.

Although I expected Merlin to start, he didn't really need to and Bob could have quite easily played the 3-4-1-2 with Milner being the player to come in.

Ah well, 3 points in the bag and lets just pray for good news on Sergio.

If the Saints finish all season like they did against us today, they are going to score their fair share of goals. Some of their passing/movement in the offensive third was sublime. Credit where credit is due.

Glad we at least have striker cover in case Kun's injury is serious.

Hope Dzeko's confidence goes up a few notches after this. He sure can need it. Very happy to see him score and the joy he displayed.

Hope Aguero is ok.
Grateful for the goal obviously, and he took it well.

But again his overall performance was poor.

cue the backlash...

As was Silva, Kompany and Lescott before everyone froths at the mouth.

I agree with this . I hate to say this but sometimes dzeko looks like a log of wood in the field, He just looks so stiff and sometimes (if not most times)he doesn't know what to do with the ball PLUS he just doesn't know when to move away from the path of a player who's trying to take a shot . For example Balo noticed Nasri wanted to take the shot and he immediately made way for the goal . Dzeko on the other hand obstructed Tevez today when there was a scramble at the Soton box ...Anyway its all over now .

Dzeko played well. He was not a world beater, but he did well in an otherwise bad performance. He nearly had three goals. He finished one that looked much easier than it was, almost bagged a header but sent it narrowly wide, and bobbled a tap in but the ball could have come in differently than he expected so I give him the benefit of the doubt. He held up play well and actually showed some pace and passing ability.

He didn't participate in the preseason like the other players and didn't start so I think he did well for what was presented to him. He is a different player to Aguero to be sure but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Great first win for City, a reminder of how it ended last season. But less of that please, and more of the 6-1 scorelines, at least we need a similar score to regain our confidence. This was a rude awakening for those who thought the new guys on the block would be easy..

Hope Aguero is ok, and not serious. we really do need him back. Kudos to Nasri for his performance.

Lets learn from this, and come back much much stronger..
