We Were Here When We Were Shit Stand
I agree. Had we named stands back in the 1930s there'd now be a Meredith, Doherty, Swift and maybe a Johnson or Brook stand. 20 years later we'd have had a Trautmann, Paul, Johnstone... in the 90s Kinkladze may even have won some votes (when I did Manchester the Greatest City we asked subscribers to name the greatest ever player - Bell won, but Kinkladze wasn't too far behind!). In 1923 fans wanted to name the new stadium after Lawrence Furniss, a former player, manager, director, chairman and 1st life president of MCFC... sounds worthy to me - but Furniss said something along the lines of 'no one should have this honour... the club is what's important'. I tend to agree with Furniss's words. Name lounges, streets, statues, gardens, bars etc. after players - or even seats (maybe an idea for the future?), but not the stands.I'd like Bell to be a one-off, I don't think it's right to name stands after former players really, because how do you pick 4 out of the greats we've had, I think it shows a favouritism and disregard for other star players.
The South stand has established it's own a strong identity and it should forever be known The South Stand. Also agree stands should not be named after players. It would be good to rename The East Stand, The Kippax without the word stand.
In all seriousness they better not name the stand after some Cityzen nomark
Will be fucking fuming
If they have to name it after a fan then i voted for Helen Turner.
